I haven't had the problems with framerate dropping when raising the resolution but my HUD as well as weapons flicker constantly. Is there any way to stop it?

if you press alt enter you will go to windowed mode.
See which version of DOSBox is there. If it is 0.73 I might know a fix.
Will running it windowed help stop the flickering?
Also I'm using DOSbox 0.72, but I could update if necessary.
Well if it happens with 0.72 then I don't have an easy solution for that. My fix for 0.73 was some option that would mimic the 0.72 behaviour.
The only thing I can think of is running univbe before rr.exe, but that isn't exactly simple
So I'm better off sticking with 640x380?
EDIT: Nevermind I found out it doesn't flicker in 800x600 which may not be much but it's a step up from 640x380.

Can't run Redneck Rampage in full screen mode. :(
I get the same flickering at 1024x768, and 1280x1024 doesn't work at all (resolution resets.)
Maybe I'll try some different output methods.
Nope, nothing works for 1024x768. Must be a problem with the game itself, not the emulation.

try vesa_nolfb in dosbox.conf
I don't think this game was designed for 1024x768 resolution. I always got flickering at higher res's. The best resolution to play this game at is 640x480. I can't remember if I got flickering at 800x600 or not.

Doesn't flicker at 800x600, which is a high enough resolution for build engine games anyway; the game wasn't really designed for higher resolutions (although Ken Silverman did write a windows NT fix for the engine, so if you search for and download that you might be able to run the game in a native mode and at a higher resolution.

I was able to fix the weapon flicker by upgrading to the most recent version of DOSBox and adding "machine=vesa_nolfb" to my dosbox .conf files:
- Upgrade to the latest DOSBox:
1. Download the latest DOSBox from http://dosbox.com (version 0.74 as of 2010-08-31)
2. Install DOSBox on your machine, using the default installation path
3. Copy the contents of the newly installed DOSBox directory to your Redneck Rampage DOSBox directory
3a. Eg. Copy everything inside "C:\Program Files\DOSBox\" to "C:\Program Files\Redneck Rampage Collection\DOSBOX", overwriting all when asked
- Edit the "dosboxRR.conf", "dosbox66.conf" and "dosboxRA.conf" files, replacing the line "machine=vga" with "machine=vesa_nolfb"
You can now set your resolution to 1024x768 for each game using "Setup", and the weapon flicker will be gone.
0.74 version of DOSBox shipped with the game, no modifications. The weapon flickers, but not constantly, only when pressing against a wall. This is still very distracting and I'm surprised that GOG hasn't fixed the issue, if flickering affects everyone.

Have you installed the game through Galaxy? Because I did that and have the same problem now. When I used the offline installer "setup_redneck_rampage_2.0.0.11" this flickering bug was not present. It seems that the offline installer and the version you can get through GOG Galaxy are not the same (different folder name and structure, different desktop shortcuts). I don't know if the offline installer is using a older version of DOSBox than the one that comes with the GOG Galaxy installation. If so it could maybe help to downgrade to that older version.

Yes, I installed with Galaxy. You should report this issue to the GOG staff.

I doubt that the difference is intentional, the game installations should be identical. The latest stable version of DOSBox is 0.74 from 2010 and this is the build GOG uses to my knowledge.
