I'm on the Uranium Mines level of Redneck Rampage and on the bit where I think I'm supposed to "use" a detonator but there's a dog there and as soon as I fire at it the game freezes for a few minutes but I still die (the dog kills me, though I don't see this because I've just got a frozen screen). The game then comes back but all the textures are mixed up with weird flat cross hatches instead of sprites.

This happens every time at the same location when the dog appears and there doesn't seem to be a way around it.

You seem to be having a lot of unique problems. Have you tried deleting the game and reloading it? Perhaps redownloading it?
I wonder if you somehow triggered a "collapsing mine shaft" explosion (I can remember there being at least one) and the framerate couldn't keep up with all the activity, and while the game hanged you got crushed. (When the player's view is sandwiched between a ceiling and floor of equal height, the BUILD engine doesn't render it very gracefully.)
Okay, this is a little old of a thread, but better late than never!

I had this same reocurring crash in the same place. Turns out, the game's resolution was, well, the resolution. What I mean is, I was playing on a high resolution. Thinking I was taxing DOSbox to its breaking point, I thought of how to reduce its workload. A lower resolution, perhaps? I did give it a test, and lo and behold! Running the game in a lower resolution eliminated the crashing issue!
Same here. My game crashed at that exact same spot. I lowered my resolution from 1280x1024 to 1024x768, and bam - it worked perfectly.
