Looks like there's been an update for Red Faction to address potential bugs and security.

https://www.factionfiles.com/ff.php?action=file&id=517525
1.21
- Fixed the 8 MB video memory error message.
- Fixed the graphical issues on recent cards.
- Important security fixes.
- Removed the CD requirement.

There's also the RF Addon v1.1 which includes those updates and has some extra benefits

https://www.factionfiles.com/ff.php?action=file&id=517539
1.1
- Command-line argument added: "-resolution <value>."
- Command-line argument added: "-window."
- Print screen crash fix for high resolutions.

1.0
- True widescreen fix.
- Hud fix for high resolutions.

So you don't need both as the addon includes the updates from v1.21. Though you can put both files into your Red Faction folder and just run whichever you want. It looks like you don't even have to rename them to replace the old RF.exe

Unless you want something that Pure Faction has the above is simpler.

The rest is the previous Pure Faction information, thought I'd just leave it in especially since I can't seem to edit the title of the thread.

Since there isn't a post about this I thought I'd make one since it can help quite a bit with Red Faction 1.

I've never known the exact list of improvements but the site lists some general things which give you a good idea like "support for modern hardware, bug fixes".

Even if you aren't having problems playing Red Faction you should still give Pure Faction a go as at the very least it will let you easily select higher resolutions like 1920x, and if you are having problems it should probably be the first thing to try as its likely to help. Also its worth pointing out that applying the Beta update to Pure Faction will let you fix the FOV (Field of View) if you use widescreen resolutions like 1920x.

Just a note to some who may not realise, but after installing Pure Faction star the game with "PF.exe", which means old shortcuts will need to be updated or replaced because they probably point to either "RedFaction.exe" or "RF.exe".

Use "PFLauncher.exe" to see the Pure Factions launcher and its available options, like Game Settings to change the resolution.

I'm honestly surprised this wasn't included in the GOG installer, with appropriate credit given of course. Seems like it'd be simpler than whatever jiggering they did to get the game running now. Though I have to wonder, has it been updated recently... Site seems to have been stuck in 2011 for a while. You'd think they'd have a mention of the GOG release, or at least change the steam link text to say it wasn't 33% off anymore...

Thanks, wasn't running right without this.
This is excellent, finally RF works.

Anyone know how to disable the overlay that pops up when I press F5? I rebinded F5 to quick save (I f**king HATE F6!! I want F5!!) and now I get the pure faction popup.

In fact the overlay appears with every F1-F6 keys. I just want to play SP.

This should really be a sticky.
Sticky please, as this patch really does resolve many bugs with red faction.

Thank you so much for this!
Does anyone know if there is a way to add bots in a Pure Faction deathmatch multiplayer game?
My Anti-virus (Norton) is flagging purefaction.org as containing a virus. False positive, surely? Just want to be sure what I'm getting into.

Nortons, from what I remember, does have more than it's share of false positives. If you ever encounter something you think is a false positive, you can normally submit it to the anti-virus vendor for closer inspection. A good habit to do.

Also when something like that happens you could check Virustotal so see what other anti-virus products say about something, if most or a lot of them think it's malicious then you may want to avoid but if only one or two say so it's pretty safe to assume it's a false positive.

Also if something is marked as "Heur" or "Heurictic" (and sometimes "Reputation" or "Suspect") it means it doesn't actually know that it's a virus, it's only (basically) guessing based on what it expects the scanned code to do (behaviour) and/or it being similar to something else that was believed to be malicious.

Grogger: Option to fix Widescreen FOV
Note that "Pure Faction" does NOT really fix FOV issues. Yes, it eliminates stretching, but gameplay is still Vert-.

For Hor+ you need a separate "Pure Faction Addon":

The message boxes in the tutorial don't contain any text and my HUD (health bar etc.) appears kind of messed up. Plus, the game crashed during the tutorial (or when pressing the Print-key) when using Pure Faction. Anything I can do to fix these issues? Maybe I'm missing a certain setting or something? All I did was install the game, install Pure Faction, switch to 1920*1080 and try to start the game via the GOG-link.

Try this instead of Pure Faction:

The GOG-link (shortcut?) probably points to RF.exe, to run Pure Faction you need to run PF.exe as mentioned.

Also if you still can't get things sorted with Pure Faction you could try the newer update for Red Faction instead.
These links trigger malwarebytes to go crazy!

does Dash Faction allow for 1080p? Thanks
