Yeah, I think I have only been promoted once an shocked when I was.

I do it myself by using a Hex editor. the sight that explained hot to is no more, but thanks to the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine, one can still learn:

I have given myself medals and taken them away, removed kills (way to far behind the enemy lines to be confirmed), or moved them to the squadmate that actually did the kill.
Which game is this and what kind of game settings are you using?

Red Baron 3D

Settings only effect flight model, AI ability, and graphics/sound.

I haven't figured out exactly what goes into promotions but I have been promoted by the game from Unteroffizier to Hauptmann - it just took several campaigns and replacing dead flyers by one of the same rank. I believe that successful missions are the key which means few friendly kills, more enemy kills, and reaching targets, balloons not being destroyed, etc. You can get a lot of kills and still fail in the missions. I was even reprimanded once with 55+ kills for not following orders after several failed missions in a row.

Not what I meant.

If I recall correctly, having invulnerability on greatly decreases the chances of promotions.
