so after reading through the forum I am a bit confused. red baron 3d from gog is actually red baron II? and i need to download a certain patch to make it 3d?
Not quite. Red Baron 3D from GOG is indeed Red Baron 3D with the superpatch that changed Red Baron II to Red Baron 3D installed. However, to enable the actual 3D graphics graphics you need to install what's called a glide wrapper. There was an old version of graphics cards which are no longer made today, so you have to emulate the calls to them to modern OpenGL and DirectX-enabled cards. The glide wrapper handles that translation (and for whatever reason GOG does not have the Glide wrapper installed by default unlike some other Glide-games on GOG).

Wailwulf has a number of Glide Wrappers optimized for Red Baron 3D hosted here:

https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=E196374A237958B4&id=E196374A237958B4%21248

You can also try nGlide or zeckensack's glide wrapper (GOG's default wrappers found in their other Glide-enabled games). You then pick the wrapper which you think makes the game look the nicest with the best performance. Putting in a new wrapper is easy. Just download the wrapper (glide2X.dll and glide3X.dll) to your Red Baron folder for the simplest wrapper - dgVoodoo may need an extra step running dgVoodoo setup after which it puts the files into your game's folder. Then wholla! You can enable the Glide graphics in the game.

Keep in mind that GOG installs a program called SetSpeed.exe which is slows your clock speed down to make Red Baron 3D playable. You will probably need to increase performance (closer to 100%) in SetSpeed.exe when using a Glide wrapper to keep the frame rates nice and smooth.

I don't - well I did download the Red baron Redux, but haven't played too much with it - there are other forumers here who know more about that.

There are also some utilities you can download like Reload - though I can't find the link.

So you turned on Glide mode in the Red Baron graphics? Again, you'll probably need to increase setspeed (or at least I did because the glide wrapper slowed the game enough that with my computer I didn't as much down-throttle on the CPU or the game's frame-rates would be too low).

There are numerous sites still availible for RB3D stuff. But I do have a good portion stored here: https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=e196374a237958b4#cid=E196374A237958B4&id=E196374A237958B4!120

I am using it more for my personal storage then anything else, but you can use what you can find.

My SUGGESTIONS:

#1 Make a copy, or COPIES of your current RB3D , especially if it is just Stock with the Glide Wrapper installed. This will save you time and headache if a mod screws up your install. Now you do not need to reinstal the program. Just Copy it over.

RB3D does not care how many copies of RB3D that you have on your computer. I personally have over twenty. Some are for specific Mods, others for testing, and then a few copies of my basic, stock install with GlideWrapper preinstalled.

#2 For the link above, here are the files that I would suggest:

A "Baronmmpexe.zip" This contains the original, patched multi player exe for the game. GOG, in their attempt to removed the CD request, made it so those servers still hosting RB3D will not allow it due to thier security. With this Baronmmp.exe, the game will ask for the CD. All you have to do is click the upper right cross six times to start the game.

B "GabiLaserRB#dStarters" This folder contains 3 game starters for RB3D that enhance the game. Two for multiplayer and one for single player.

+ "RB3D_ReLoad_1.166.zip" This is for Single player. Gives you a bullet counter (just click Alt+F to enable), a constant wind speed and direction so you can be blown off course and various other goodies. Also allows for use of TrackIR. I feel a must have for SP

+ "RB3D_RedBulletMMP.zip" Multiplayer Bullet Counter. The one most likelt to want for MP

+ "RB3D_TViewMP_1.3.zip" Multi Player. This allows you to use TrackIR so you can look around your cockpit while flying, but does not have a Bullet Counter. Also can use your mouse to look around the cockpit if you want. Stock game lets you do so by pressing Return and moving your Joy Stick. This program allows you to still fly while looking around. Very Cool, but unless you are a Reality SIM Pilot or do not have TrackIR, I would say you do not need.

C "PL2PLv1.zipFiles.zip" This will add enhanced Promised Land 2 Terrain to your game. There are numerous terrains out there for RB3D, but of them all, this is the best over all. There is a Promised Land 1 Terrain which I also have, which in most ways looks better, BUT it has a tendency to crash the game upon exiting if the computer is using Win7.

D "Editeur_de_campagne_pour_RedBaron3D.zip" This is a Single Player campaign manager that allows you to do various tasks to your squadron and pilot. Has only one BUG, and that is for changing the date (it set the game to current year). If you do not change the date, all will be fine, Very cool.

- There is also a Campaign Manager 1.1 out there for RB3D, but unfortunately does not work with Win7 :( Between the Editeur_de_campagne and Campaign Manager 1.1 (CM11), you could really do alot in modifying you SP games between missions.

Honorable mentions:

"Slew-sights-for-redbaron.exe" -Planes have a gun sight when in slew mode.
"WFP_MMPdefaults" -MultiPlayer. Replaces the games defaults plane skins with much nicer ones.

I'd recommend one of the player patches like "Hells Angels Super Patch" (HASP). Haven't used any of the others so its all I know but it makes the planes fly more correctly and look much better. The others I'm told do similar things.

Hi Crazy Dave,

I just reinstalled RB 3D and FCJ superpatch.

I don't know which folder to install the Glide wrapper files into.

Also, I want to be able to use RB 3D's Mission Generator and if I crash to be able to see the white map canvas roll down and show me where I died.

Can you help me please?

Thank you,
Stefos71

I am not sure about the mission generator or the map canvas, but the glide wrapper files simply go into the same folder containing your game's executable. In the game's graphics options you should then see the 3D glide become available to check. Keep in mind you may have to adjust set speed to get smooth frame rates.
