I picked up this game a while ago hoping to get into it and have a good time, and seeing as RB1 works just fine through DOSBOX, I was expecting RB3D to work just fine too.

The exact opposite has happened. In addition to running like absolute ass (30fps or less) with stuttering and other issues, I looked to this forum and others for help only to find almost every piece of information ended in a dead link, dead forum or site or didn't give me any answers. Using glide mode with the wrapper provided seem to do nothing at all apart from stop the starting movie from playing, and even touching the speed settings ruined everything and required me to do a fresh install. The only piece of advice so far which has actually proved helpful was turning off sun glare to increase framerate.

I decided to try and use a different wrapper, expecting it to be a simple drag and drop affair. it was not, and absolutely nothing changed. I've had issues like this similarly with another game, Clive Barker's Undying, and I simply gave up for the same reasons of basically no up to date info.

What I need to know is: Where the most recent information on this game is, where I can get a decent wrapper for the game, ANY wrapper that will work, how to remove the one included and the weird stupid set speed guff, and any other tips that you can give me. I really want to enjoy this game.
Unfortunately, most info for this game has been lost.

The SWISSA site has been cloned and uploaded here by Uhlan.

As to a drop and use glide wrapper, I have one uploaded to my Hotmail OneDrive. It can be found here with some other RB3D stuff:

Stanski posted a link where he hosts a version with no setspeed limits:

https://www.gog.com/forum/red_baron_pack/setspeed_and_compess_time/post5

It also has a bunch of other stuff. It's still up as of June 15th, 2016.

For me, the intro movie only plays the first time unless I used Reload.exe (which I got from Wailwulf awhile back I think is in his current link). Between Wailwulf and Stanski you should have everything you need for the game itself.

You talk about using a wrapper - are you playing in Wine on Mac or Linux? In Linux the game should work perfectly. I'm playing on Mac - joysticks works now and I submitted a patch to Wine to improve them further. So throttle and rudder on joysticks will work on Mac as well*. (unless you are talking about Glide wrappers? GOG now has nglide installed by default and Wailwulf and Stanksi provide two other ones)

*soon

That's you! +1 good sir. Looks like they were finished being committed to git today.

Yup! Ken Thomases (the guy who did the original patch to get winmm joysticks working) signed-off on them. Do you play on the Mac?

Nah, Linux. I've been using Wine more and started compiling it from git and more closely following the development around 1.9.x. The patches stood out as they were Mac specific, different committer, and added a nice bit of functionality.

Thanks! I actually created a custom version of the joystick code for myself that ignores all buttons beyond the first (and actually the hat too) - that way I could remap them with a joystick program on the Mac called ControllerMate since I decided I didn't like the game's defaults.
