Like the title says, is it possible to play in a tethered dynamic third person chase cam?
Like Freelancer or Everspace.

I can't play in first person cockpit views, so it's of tantamount importance to know.
The trailer doesn't really say much in that regard.
Perfectly playable, but only in Normal or Veteran difficulty. It's not allowed in the other difficulties.

Thank you for answering!
However..it left me a little befuddled as well. Could you elaborate on the difficulties?

About the difficulties, if you start in Normal the game is fairly generous with your starting equipment, and you have all flight assists. In Veteran, you have a not so generous amount of equipment starting out, and you have all flight assists. In Sim, you have flight assist, but no aim assist, and it's first person view only. As for Old School, it's the same as Sim but with no assists at all.

This video is from the dev and he shows off a little about the game (not much about the difficulties in this video though): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYYoKlWzyAQ

This is not at all like Freelancer or Everspace, this is a Wing Commander Privateer homage and as such the flight mechanics are very, very different.

Thank you for telling me!
I didn't know that the flight mechanics were that different.

I also read elsewhere that it was made for a controller first and foremost, instead of mouse and keyboard.
This changes things a lot.
It's now a no buy.

I haven't tried Starpoint Gemini 3 yet, but I put my hopes in that, and Everspace 2 then.
just as de_bullock pointed out this is privateer now for modern pc's

Now i need to find out if you can talk an enemy ship into not attacking you anymore as you could in privateer :D

It supports HOTAS and some find KB+M easier to play than with a gamepad. There are a few configurations. Check the Double Damage discord for details regarding people's experiences using various control methods and mechanisms. The devs are great to interact with there, too.
