It has a little of both. There are jump scares (enemies appearing out of nowhere), but there is also some psychological horror where you think something is very very wrong. It's not as intense as Silent Hill and also technically quite dated, but if you can look past that it can become a pretty intense experience.

Also it must be said that the sound design in this game is fantastic: Creepy sounds without a source, doors keep slamming shut behind you, loud footsteps next door, strange inhuman screams and so on.

thanks for the quick reply and im glad you understand what i ment(english not my native language) well to be honest silent hill had to much scare factor thats why im glad this hasnt too much or too less of that now i know at least what to expect. btw i love pscychological horrors and thrillers.
Definitely worth it.

Speaking of the sound design; it really was amazing and innovative. I actually think it probably had some of the best from the games of its era.

It's not just the quality of sounds but rather the attention to detail. There was stuff in there that had I'd never heard in other games before, and sometimes not in modern ones either.

As an example, I remember, whilst standing under dropplets of water from a ceiling, I would hear the distinctive "plop" sound when it splashed onto Adam's coat. I thought that was impressive.
