Weird. No one ever thought of using DOSBox own key remapper? It even shows up when you start it (not the game icon, just plain DOSBox without the script to run the game), hit CTRL+F1 to start the mapper.
It's much better than the crappy "remappable controls" of the US version, which doesn't allow to remap everything. Just grab the manual pdf, start the mapper and go reassigning keys. Easy as fuck :P
The bad thing is you can't rebind the mouse buttons there, but as the game relies so much on the cursor (even for shooting, it's easier to do it with the red circle), the actual use of mouselook is rather limited. I only use it for looking down to pick up items or to have a good view of the surroundings. Arrow keys to WASD, strafe to Q/E, jump/crouch to space/ctrl, 'use' to F, 'inventory' to tab, 'run' to shift, 'shoot' to alt and weapons 2-6 to 1-5 (fists are useless as there's a plain sword right from the start). And 'holster' to R, even though it's pointless. But it makes you feel a little more badass by drawing your mighty pistol at scary moments :P. Wish the game had drawing animations (the reload one is REALLY cool, and more for a game this old) and more firearms, something like an old greasegun or a bolt action rifle would had been... "splendid" :D
The "arcade" difficulty just affects the damage given/taken I think, given the horrible AI this game has, it's kinda a joke. Even the dodger at the end can be shot down with the pistol without you getting hurt (run from one end to another), lol xD
So, way to go the UK version :P. I have the original (UK) CDs from loooooooooong ago and I've just beaten the game for the 4th time. Realized it had a GOG release and came here to see what the folks were saying :3
