Mambba: Same problem >:(?

dinofan137: I took the risk and I launched the mapper and now I regret it, I really hope they are false positive alerts . :/

Mambba: Why did you regret it ? Did you have troubles or damages on your PC after ?
Well, I haven't seen anything but I'm still aware...
Alright!

Oh I just got a mail from GOG !

Hello,

We've checked game files, there is no risk involved in running the game.

Well it seems to be all right ! =v=
Umm, hehe, I really hope he means there is no risk involved in running the game AND the editor, because there never was any risk with running the game itself, only the editor-related files such as client.exe and whatnot, but I believe Ethaar's words are related to all the executables in the package. :)
They are all false positives. Every last one 'em. Yes, even that one. ;)

Thanks a lot for confirming it! :)

That's good to know, but since so many antivirus programmes have problems with them, there must be something funny in the files, which should be fixed by GOG.
There should be a sticky thread on this as people will regularly come here checking out what's wrong with Rayman.
I have added the info to the GOGWiki. Hopefully that will help illuminate things too but I agree with you, a sticky is necessary for an issue of this size.

For what it is worth MSE thinks all the files are fine.
My MSE reported that a virus was found in MAPPER.EXE so it appears that even they now report false positives
Still happening years later! Maybe the warning about false positives should be part of the actual description of the game before one buys it? I'd be interested in a semi-technical explanation of why it's happening. It gets identified as Win32:CIH-G@dam by my Avast.
The reason it is being detected as a virus is because the way the game was coded back in 1995 or whenever, Anti-Virus systems did not have a definition for whatever code was used in the original version because it wasn't threatening to a user's system and there was no spread of any malicious code based on that code. 15-17 years later and times have changed: the code that was used originally is now used with malicious intent and anti-virus systems now have a definition for that identified virus. There is nothing you can do due to the definitions all AV software use.

Does GOG object to the submission of the file to avast! or other anti-malware provider for the purpose of identifying it as a false positive? The process seems to require that I upload the file in question for evaluation and possible exclusion from future definitions.

Submit the file already. Avast! is hardly going to start distributing/selling the game or keep it for themselves for that matter. They won't exclude without seeing it first.
