This game is kicking my ass. I thought it would be a breeze like mario but it's difficult, almost irritatingly so. Does anyone have any tips? I just beat the first "world" where you get the power to grab onto things.
My best tip is that you should practice each level. Load up your save file and practice a few levels, then load up that save file again and practice those levels some more, then once you get through those levels without losing too many lives, save your game. Trust me, this game requires lots of practice and skill.

If you ever want to stock up on lives, go back to early levels in the Dream Forest and keep collecting those orbs. Or, you could always try the 99 lives cheat.
If you ever want to play a game properly, cheating is not the way to go. Instead, just keep trying: you'll find a strategy that works :)

I have yet to meet anyone who has successfully completed Rayman Forever without cheating. I love the game with all my heart, but it is insanely difficult at times.

I think in some cases, I would actually accept cheating. Eg Rayman Forever and the PS1 variant. Those games are off the charts in terms of preciseness so I wouldn't care if someone cheated their way through it :P

But if it was a game like Rayman 3 which isn't all that difficult, I would definitely be frowning the person for doing so.
I'm stuck on this place: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbRFDg0mPIU

Yeah, I don't think this game is for me....

I haven't tried Earthworm Jim 1 & 2 yet - aside from the demos. They're not as hard as Rayman Forever, are they?

I feel a need to help you out, since I was stuck on this level for many years. First though: I *have* beaten it without cheating and am beating it again now that GoG has it, but yeah it's ridiculously tough. My suggestion for you on that huge 6-part level:

Part 1: Go right toward the exit, since you do not have the grapple power yet. Use the plums carefully, and if you're getting hit by the falling red spiked fruit, try going close then turning around until they fall, so you go the other way. I also don't remember if the huge worm-like monster with a giant eye is in this level, but it is killable.
Part 2: Worst part, stuck here for a long time. Don't be fooled by the moving platforms in the beginning, it's always best to jump right when the first platform (the one you're on) is at the rightmost end of its path.
Part 3: Try to stay to the right, and be careful on the small platforms, since the anti-toons can be deadly.
Part 4: Breather level, go slowly.
Part 5: Boss fight. You can hit him when he zooms at you from left to right or right to left, either by punching when you're on the ground (and he's flying really low) or jumping and punching when he's at head level. Doable, but his health bar is very large.
Part 6: Power time, you cannot fail.

I used the pictures provided in the "rayman cage strategy guide" (google it if you need to) to remember what the levels were, but my strategies are my own. Good luck!
I kind of know what you mean. I've always had a bad temper with difficult games, and I got the DSiWare version for my 3DS. I got to one of the Band Land levels, and after the difficulty, I threw it on the ground. The screens came separate, and it would not power on correctly. I had to send it to Nintendo with a $60 money order for the repair. I shouldn't play this game too much.
Yes, this game is a challenge. I'm playing it for the first time and I really like it, you have to try each level several times to learn how to go through. You must be reactive, bosses are hard.

Great stuff. =)
Yeah I've been playing this for almost a year now on and off, I got to the third pencil themed stage and then started backtracking to find all the chests before i move on, I currently found all of them up to Mr stony's peaks. I think more than half of my total playtime was spent in dream forests collecting those orbs. I this game is damn hard but i feels so good beating a hard stage or boss.

They're not as hard, but remember that old PC platformers are a lot more challenging than modern games. I don't think that EWJ 1 and 2 were as insanely hard though!
I had this game on the PSone back in the day and I remember it being hard as balls too. I recall using the level select cheat and checking out random levels. I can't recall one I completed (none past the first world anyway). Good to see it's not just that I suck! (though I probably still do anyway...)

I remember at least one gaming publication commenting on it being "too easy/for children." I think it was GamePro. Of course now they're known for being one of the worst gaming publications that existed and it's possible they didn't bother playing past the first few levels (there was something similar with EGM and their reviews of the unfortunately cancelled US port of Mr. Gimmick) but at the time as someone who took gaming publications more seriously than I do now it misled me TERRIBLY. It, along with Bubsy II, also tainted forever my impression of music-themed levels - well, OK the Bubsy II comparison is harsh. To put it in a better way, the music levels in Rayman I thought sucked while Bubsy II just flat-out sucked in general ;)
I beat the GBA version, though it was insanely hard.

I don't know how different the pc version is.

More or less like it, just improved graphics, music, more levels etc

And yes, this game is brutally difficult, definitely not for kids, don't let the "Childish" exterior of the game fool you
I know. I was doing fine until I got to Moskitos Nest.
