As a kid I enjoyed Rayman Advanced on GBA (Same game as Rayman Forever) so I thought it'd be fun to play it on PC.

However as I played I started noticing many differences (not just the music issue), for example in the PC version when you die you lose all of the Tings you've collected (making it much harder to get new lives from 100 tings). Additionally you start with only 3 health points on this version but you start with 4 on GBA. I also noticed many jumps and other sections that were much easier to do on GBA than in this version.

Has anyone else noticed this sort of thing with other ports of the game? Or have any idea of why this version has such a ramped up difficulty? (It's pretty frustrating)

The PC vesion is actually the version the GBA version is based off, not the other way around. So the GBA version made a lot of things easier than how it originally was on PC. Basically the GBA version added 1 extra point of health, more checkpoints, extra platforms and you don't lose all tings upon dying.
The difficulty of the original was always rather brutal. The GBA version made things easier. Aside from cheats, you're probably just going to have to buck up and embrace the extra difficulty if you want to play the PC version.
