SO I played a lot of RB6 on the N64 and was wondering if this is the same version or was the N64 one totally different?

Hello wengart!

I had played the N64 port of "Rainbow Six" first, as well, before moving to the original PC Windows version and its sequels.
Overall, I think the N64 port is quite true to the originally intended experience on the PC (other than the not so faithful port on the Playstation 1). The interface was streamlined for the N64 console and controller, the amount of active team members has been reduced a little, but you could still form up to four individual teams (the Playstation 1 port is a solo affair only), there is a split screen co-operative multiplayer on N64, and the pre-rendered videos from the PC version have been reduced to slide shows of a few still images.

The two main differences are in the list of available missions (levels repsectively) and some additional bug fixes on the N64 port!
The PC (Windows) version can suffer on modern hardware from some severe graphical glitches and from wrong spawning positions of individual enemies or hostages (beyond the level borders/walls) especially in certain missions, rendering the corresponding few levels impossible to finish on a regular way...

The here on GOG.com available version seem to be made from an errornous build or includes some corrupted mission files. Some users reported to successfully having fixed the spawning errors by replacing certain game files with the ones from an actual CD retail release version.
The way how the copy protection (disc check) is being circumvented seem to affect the playback of the/some music tracks, since the orignal retail version ustilizes audio directly from the CD.

Here is a list of the differences in available missions / levels on N64 port versus the PC original (including its expansion pack):

#The N64 port features 12 missions total:
01. Cold Thunder
02. Red Wolf
03. Sun Devil
04.* Eagle Watch
05. Ghost Dance
06. Fire Walk
07.* Lion's Den
08. Deep Magic
09. Lone Fox
10. Black Star
11. Wild Arrow
12. Mystic Tiger

While the original PC (Windows) version has 16 missions + 5 missions added in the "Eagle Watch" expansion:

#16 original PC "Rainbow Six" missions:
01. Steel Wind (-)(not in N64) "bank level"
02. Cold Thunder
03. Angel Wire (-)(not in N64) "oil rig level"
04. Sun Devil
05. Ghost Dance
06. Blue Sky (-)(not in N64) "dam level"
07. Fire Walk
08. Winter Hawk (-)(not in N64) "airport level"
09. Red Wolf
10. Razor Ice (-)(not in N64) "ship level"
11. Yellow Knife (-)(not in N64) "estate level"
12. Deep Magic
13. Lone Fox
14. Black Star
15. Wild Arrow
16. Mystic Tiger

#5 additional PC "Eagle Watch" expansion missions:
*01. Little Wing (-)(not in N64) "space shuttle level"
*02. Sapphire Rising (-)(not in N64) "Taj Mahal level"
*03. Lion's Den
*04. Red Lightning (-)(not in N64) "Forbidden City (Beijing) level"
*05. Eagle Watch

As you can see, the N64 port is missing the six marked missions from the PC version (bank, oil rig, dam, airport, ship, and estate), but includes two extra missions from the PC expansion pack (Lion's Den, and Eagle Watch), and has a slightly different order of each mission!

I have not confirmed it myself, yet. But I assume that the here on GOG.com available PC version does not include the five "Eagle Watch" expansion missions, since other comparable games--such as "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon"--are lacking their expansion packs, too.

If you never played the original PC version before, then you will enjoy the additional diverse missions / levels even without the expansion pack!
However, it is likely that you might run into various compatibility issues and the 'missing enemy / hostage' bug due to the spawning error in certain levels. (See other threads in the game specific forum for different approaches to avoid them, e.g. changing the mission win criteria in the mission file, playing those affected levels on a lower difficulty, replacing the potentially corrupted game files, etc.)

Kind regards,
