I'm using Lutris with GE-Proton 9-23, and it appears that under Configure > Runner options, turning on dgvoodoo2 in addition to the rest (DXVK, VKD3D, D3D Extras, DXVK-NVAPI / DLSS) helped. Description for dgvoodoo2 says "dgvoodoo2 is an alternative translation layer for rendering old games that utilize D3D1-7 and Glide APIs. As it translates to D3D11, it's recommended to use it in combination with DXVK. Only 32-bit apps are supported."

Anyway, the performance isn't the greatest, but at least it's not lagging so hard that it accidentally drags a selection box when I am only clicking to 'move' the character a few times. Playable, at least. Seems to also look better as well but that could just be me.

Anyone else play on Linux & have any tips? Places to get widescreen patches etc?

Hello jr2 and thanks for the tip! dgvoodoo2 helped me with both game lag/micro freezes and mouse cursor problems! :).

Don't know about widescreen patches but can share a few miscellaneous advices:

1) To change in-game rendering resolution you can use "Arguments" box in Configure > Game options tab. The game recognizes launch arguments -1024 (for 1024x768 resolution), -800 (for 800x600) and -640 (for 640x480). (In practice I only tested "-1024" - it works).

Optional, but if you come down this route, you can also think about actually changing your screen resolution before launching the game. You can do it in "Switch resolution to" drop-down list in Configure > System options tab. If you decide to use it - don't forget to also turn on "Restore resolution on game exit" on the same tab!

2) If you want to play the game in language other then English - make sure you picked correct "locale" in Configure > System options tab.

For Rage of Mages II you might also need to add a correct "LANG" key to "Environment variables" on the same tab.

3) And another small non-linux reminder: the game can be a bit slow-paced by today standards. Don't forget that "+" and "-" keys can change the game speed. :).
