I've been playing the VGA version of QFG1. I'm fairly far along, and a while back, I picked up some magic mushrooms from the fairies mushroom circle during the day. Since then, my stat screen has been looking pretty weird (all the values are shifted down a bit and over to the left; as such I can't read the stats or the stat values as they're on top of each other). Furthermore, walking is occasionally weird, and I went to the Baron's castle after saving the Baronet (but not ending the curse or saving his daughter). The door opened and my character moved towards it to enter, then just stopped and stood there for a long time while music played without actually entering.

Anybody have any suggestions or solutions to solving these bugs?

Thanks for any help!
Hmm, that doesn't sound good...

QFG1 VGA actually always seemed to be one of the more buggy QFG games, after QFG4....

Have you seen the graphic glitch where all the colors on screen invert? Kinda like if you eat the magic mushrooms...? I remember that happening to me several times when fighting monsters.
Did picking up the magic mushrooms take you over your weight capacity, or were you already over? Picking up magic mushrooms when you are/become encumbered will mess up your game. Only solution is to revert to an earlier save, I'm afraid.
Now I'm having another problem, where no matter where I click, I cannot throw the DIspel potion at Elsa. I constantly dump it out instead. Not sure if this is because the mushrooms messed up my game or what.

I'm pretty familiar with this one. I can't remember if it occurs when you pick up the mushrooms or when you sell them, but I choose to just never pick them. There's a glitch that allows you to pick/sell an infinite amount of them and I'm pretty sure it's related. Just avoid the mushrooms and you should be good.

Gotta earn an honest living ;)
I've never had that problem before. Strange. I suppose I do that side quest once early on to get paid, and then move on to other stuff. I think there are points connected to it IIRC as well.

They definitely have puzzle points attached for selling them the first time, and I think they may even be an ingredient in the Dispel Potion. But if you haven't trained up strength yet I definitely wouldn't pick them more than once or twice, and make sure you have some spare weight capacity first.
Thanks for all the help!

I managed to finish the game earlier today without ever being able to look at my stats/health. It was a pain, but definitely not a game-breaking bug.
I got a similar error by trying to pick up mushrooms super fast. I clicked super fast to the point that the in game dialog started messing up and talked about errors and debugs. The only way I could "fix" it was to go to an earlier save before I went mushroom crazy.

I am having this problem too - any resolution? The patch is worthless.
