I finished the first game, and it won't save my character :( Anyone have a suggestion?

A little more detail is nice. Do you get any messages from the game after trying to save your hero? What's the specified location you try to save the hero to?

Any location does not work. And it just jumps straight to "Do you wish to try to save your character again?"

Actually, I've just figured it out :) Just save your file to C:\ and it'll save it to the directory you've got the game installed. If anyone else has this problem.

That message usually means it was a sucsessfull save, in otherwords, you probably have duplictes of your hero at various places on your computer, depending on what you typed in as location.

Nah, it actually confirms you've saved it when it's successful.

It saves through dosbox. Dosbox mounts the game's directory as "C:\" so if you try to save to C:\Program Files, you are actually trying to save to "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Quest for Glory Series\Quest for Glory 1\Program Files" which obviously doesn't exist.
Do keep this in mind when trying to import the character as well.
P.S. Haven't got it installed, just guessing at directory names, but that is the usual deal with gog dos games.
When I save my character at the end of QFG1 VG, i can only save it to the C:\ directory. Then it shows up under:

C:\Users\Griffin\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Quest for Glory\Quest for Glory Pack\Quest for Glory 1\VGA

Basically, a hidden file in the QFG1 folder. I can find it with a browser search, but if I drag it to the QFG2 folder, the game will recognize it, but says that it "Could not find hero file."
Bizarre: I loaded my latest QFG1 save, beat it again, and this time exported as:

c:\heroname.sav

instead of

c:\glory1.sav

Found it in browser search, copied and pasted into the QFG2 folder, and there it was. Import worked fine.
I have found my file but no copying and pasting makes it show up in QFG2 or QFG3.

What location did you paste it to?

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Quest for Glory Pack\Quest for Glory 2

or C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\GOG.com\Quest for Glory Pack\Quest for Glory 2

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Quest for Glory Pack\Quest for Glory 2" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Quest for Glory Pack\Quest for Glory 3", depending on which game you want to import it to. Your save will then be available ingame as "c:\glory1.sav" or however you named it.
That is where I saved it. It still isn't available. There is a huge list of files when I click import, but the saved game isn't there.

Going by your post here, you are still not pasting it to the correct folder. Make sure that the folder you are pasting to has the sierra.exe (if I recall correctly) file in it, or any of the files that you see when you click import.
Neither the appdata nor the programdata folder are correct

I don't see those files anywhere. I will have to look around for them.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Quest for Glory Pack\Quest for Glory 2"
I seemed to have missed the GOG.com part in my previous post. The last directory may not be called Quest for Glory 2, but I hope you'll be able to find it.
