Thanks! I'm a few days into this game. After reading that there is an event that can be missed which in turn renders the game unwinnable, I'm now worried I might just have done this. What is this event to precise?

Which game are you playing? QFG4 is the only one I can remember such issues with off the top of my head. (In QFG4's case, make sure to get back to the inn at sunset for the first few days til you meet a guy with the initials PB. And on one of those initial days go downstairs at midnight to meet another important character.)

D'oh! Yeah mentioning what game might have been useful. I was talking about Quest for Glory 3. Looking around I read somewhere about having to give a beggar money, but I haven't found anyone.

Is there a time limit to QfG3? Or a specific place you have to be at a specific time?
I don't remember there being anything you can miss like that in QFG3. Everything should stay around until triggered. (Everything critical to the game, at any rate. Certainly dialogue trees may only be around on one day.)

In QFG3 there are some events that are time based, happen on certain specific days. Mainly the big issue is if you don't do everything in the city, after a certain time they close the gates, and you can't get back in. If you need certain items (such as a dispell potion), you are out of luck. This in general should lead to not so good endings, in the game.

Also there are is one character you could miss talking to in the city, in the Inn. One of the members of the Lost City expedition. After a while he dies/killed. I can't remember if some of the stuff he tells you is 100% required or simply will lower your score.

There is the thief character in the city, that you have to befriend to get best end game situation. Although he may still show up no matter what. I'm not sure if he leads to a dead end, but befriending him helps with some other events. He appears at night on completely different days for each character class. For example magic user he might appear on day 7, and fighter he might appear on day 14, and thief he might appear on day 12. These examples aren't accurate, i'm just giving an analogous example.

Likewise I think there is monkey you can befriend, but if you don't do it, it might mess things up.

But most things lead to less points, not necessarily a total dead end.

Thanks for your answers. I'm about 13 days in and have both gotten and used the dispel potion. I have met the thief too a few nights and although he's happy to meet me he never says anything out of the ordinary. Just "you can't leave me like this!" and so on. I haven't gotten any points for meeting him so I don't know if I've done things right.
One word of warning, get another dispel potion... Actually depending on the path you may need up to 3 dispel potions.

Don't worry, just meeting the Thief at night is all you really need to do, to be on the right path! If you want some extra honor, you can give him some food.

Another event that can influence some aspects of the game, but not necesarily make it unwinnable (at least I'm not sure actually) is how the leopardwomen is freed and you earn her trust. If you forget to dispel her (she escapes after a few days), if you dispel her and don't do anything (she escapes after a few days). or go through the engagement process (earn the right to marry her, and set her free). This may mainly affect the total points.

I've been looking around, aparently, if you lose the 'fine spear' you need as a gift could make the game unwinnable. You can only buy it once, and the game does allow you to 'drop' items.

Don't worry too much about the monkey Baggins mentioned -- if you haven't stumbled across him by the time you NEED to have stumbled across him the game forces the encounter so that you don't end up in a completely unwinnable situation. And the only way to mess it up from there is to really be an awful, awful human being. And you wouldn't do that, you're a Hero. Right?

...right?
strangly i've had the game bug out at times and the monkey never showed up... Days and days went by and nothing.
