So I found the frost giant and decided to bargain with him since I am a thief and dont want to fight him. I happened to have 10 apples with me and gave him those, I know I need to get him 40 more, but whenever I go back to the area he i never there. Do i have to come back with all the apples or at a certain time of the day?

Are you moving into the middle of the area when you return? IIRC he won't show up if you just stand at the edge of the screen.

I have walked all over the screen and he never shows up

Is he not showing up even if you return with a full set of apples? Are you visiting him during the daytime? (I don't think that makes a difference, but it's possible.)

Also, are you sure that you're returning to the same screen? (The end of the road screen could be fooling you with its appearance, especially at night.)

I have showed up with no apples, all the apples, I have shown up in the day and night and yes the same area as the first time

The Frost Giant only leaves after he's completed his trade. Have you checked your inventory to see if you received the gemstone without noticing?
