I was playing QFG 1 (EGA) last night and my save was working just fine. I turn it on the next day, and the game says that I can't reload it because they were saved under a different interpreter (which sucks because I was almost ready to import him into QFG 2)

Huh, that's weird. Try contacting the support. If not, just replay the game, you know what to do by now so it should take an hour max - usually about 20 mins or so! :)
