I seem to recall in when the game was released if you switched to hand or eye cursor it would show them on screen.

In this version it seems to just show the eye or hand cursors for a brief second and then switches to a windows-style arrows shaped cursor.

I think this might be a bug? Anyone have a fix for this?
I thought you had to click the hand and then an eye was in the palm and that's how you looked at stuff. It was designed for one click mice.
You can click on the cursor changing button, with one click. Or you can cycle through it using the 'right click'.

The problem I'm seeing though is that the current curser won't stay on screen, and defaults to a generic 'arrow', as opposed to the eye graphic cursor, or the walk/hand/action pointer cursor.
+1 to the OP.

I'm experiencing exactly the same problem. The mouse cursor is always in the shape of the classic windows arrow except when you right click to change mode, but then -as OP says- it lasts only until you MOVE your mouse. Sometimes when you end a conversation or some specific action, you can see the cursor briefly as it's supposed to be.. but as I said you move it and it's gone, back to the arrow.

While I realise that the game is still playable in the hard sense of the word, I've never before played through QFG5 and very much need the game to hint at me what should be clicked on and what should not. I don't feel like degrading the intended experience through tedious clicking and pixel hunting.

I'm on Windows 7 32bit and tried the options under the compatibility tab when you right click the direct access on desktop but no success.

Surely we're not the only 2 people who have this issue. Anyone else? Any ideas whatsoever?

Well, its not optimum solution, but I noticed if you task switch to desktop and then switch back in. It apparently fixes the problem. At least until you quit and reload the game :p...

Hey great discovery! not a solution but still an excellent workaround!

On a side note: to my surprise, the hand cursor doesn't do anything when you pass over hotspots so I guess the intended experience is like in previous QFGs. Disregard my previous ranting..
this doesnt sound like all that bad of a problem... actually sounds good.

one of my issues in these games is that the "pointer" is usually so huge im not sure what pixel is actually the pointer. especially with the "hand" icon, as it opens and closes as you move it, changing the location of the finger-point. ive had a hard time clicking stuff when my character is too close to the object. like the doors/cupboards in the castle, id had to step away, then use them (if they take two clicks).

a windows pointer is so much more accurate, might make some things easier.

im playing QG4CD from the 1998 Anthology (for the first time... bought it new, but never played the voice version until now) in DOSbox. not the GOG version.

my game issues are speed issues... i think i should start a topic on it though. dont want to jack this thread :)
Yes, in QFG4 the cursor is always animated and as you say it's difficult to know exactly where you are clicking. But in QFG5 the cursor is much smaller and isn't animated so it's easy to use and smooth as silk. Even when you throw something like a dagger, it changes into a crosshair :)
