As far as I can remember, getting turned into a Spirea flower by the Dryad is the only death in the entire series that might be unique to the fighter. Not many things in QFG are unique to the fighter, due to the fact that it was meant mainly as the character class for people playing the game the first time. But I'm not even sure about this. Is there a way to destroy the Spirea flowers if you are a mage or thief?
Yeah, you just click on it with your dagger unless I'm mistaken.
It might just throw the dagger at the plant, though.

My biggest criticism about the VGA version is that the dagger's a bit finicky about what you'll do with it - and unfortunately it's a bit of a necessary evil. Sometimes, you click on something, and it'll throw it. Sometimes, like when fighting the kobold, you'll initiate combat.

In the EGA version, the thief can kill the kobold by throwing daggers at him, but that seems to be impossible in the VGA version (unless you can click past him and hit him that way?)

On the other hand, if the dagger was thrown instead of initiating combat, the Magic User would be SOL because once the Kobold gets Reversal active, the only way to kill him is to go into combat with Zap... which is... actually a lot harder in the VGA version than the EGA version for some reason - I ended up with a zombie Hero trying to do it in the VGA version.
Well, I tried everything in my mind. Using the dagger on the plants just throws the dagger. I tried using Flame Dart and that gives a "You'd just hurt the seed" message.

So I went into the EGA version just to see... and when you type "hack plant" or "fight plant" as a Thief or Magic User, you get a message that says, "You could do that if you had a sword."

In other words, I think you are right, cbingham. I think that this is Fighter only. Of course, in testing all of this, I may have found a much safer route for Magic-User Any%, and I have to thank you. :)
