The download page for QFG shows a "1.0.0" installer and a "1.0.1" update, but the actual filenames I get for both when I download them are setup_quest_for_glory_pack_1.0.1.30.exe and patch_questforglory_1.0.1.30.exe.

Does this mean that the game installer is actually GOG's "1.0.1" and that they just haven't updated the download page to reflect that? Or do I still need to download and install the patch to get the 1.0.1 updates?

It's been a few months, but I remember being confused by the same thing. IIRC, I just downloaded both, ran the set-up and then ran the patch file. I just figured if a patch wasn't needed, it wouldn't install it. Everything has worked fine, so far.
IIRC, the version number listed on the download page refers to the GoG installer rather than the content. Generally, if you see a patch, the installer will already include it; the patch is there for people who downloaded the game before the patch was released.

And I thought their version system was bad already for not corresponding to official patch versions of games with well-known patches.

If what you say is true, then their numbering system is downright terrible.

Wow, indeed.
I recently downloaded all of my owned GOG games onto my 2 TB hard drive for safe-keeping, and it
looks to me like they try to post updated versions of both the main installer and the patches.

The purpose of patches is likely to save people from having to re-download and/or re-install
the whole game over again.

In the case of QFG, I'm convinced that the download list just has a typo when it says 1.0.0 for the
main installer and 1.0.1 for the patch, as both files have "1.0.1.30" in their names when I
actually download them.

Other games that I own with patches (e.g. Alpha Centauri and FTL) list the same version numbers for the patches as for the main installers on their download lists.

Now I'm even more confused, as the current game installer version is 2.0.0.32, while the 1.0.1.30 update is still available for download. I previously had 1.0.1.30 game installer and patch versions downloaded.

Why include an update that corresponds to an older version? I guess maybe the new installer version is a non-functional update?
Since the last time this thread was active, the installer has updated to version 2, which (IIRC) differs only in that it installs the game outside of the Program Files folder.

The update is still available for anyone who has an older installation.
