Hi everyone,

i just bought and installed Quake Enhanced and wondered what this file is being used for: Quake_Shipping_Playfab_GOG_x64.exe

Does anybody know?

EDIT: Ok, stupid question, i admit. Just noticed it's the exe-file for playing. But why is it called this way? What does this "Shipping_Playfab" stand for?

Another question: Can you play Dimension of the Machine with the original version of Quake: The Offering?

Thanks for any info!

I am not sure what Shipping_Playfab means.

As for Dimension of the Machine:

1) Download Quakespasm and extract it to wherever you want.

2) Copy the ID1 folder from your GOG Quake the Offering installation into your Quakespasm folder. You will now have the quakespasm\ID1\ folder.

3) Additionally, copy the mg1 folder from your GOG Quake Enhanced folder into your Quakespasm folder. You will now also have the quakespasm\mg1\ folder.

4) Lastly, copy the file QuakeEX.kpf from your GOG Quake Enhanced installation into your Quakespasm folder where Quakespasm’s executable is.

Note: To enable Quake 1’s music, follow the instructions as specified in Quakespasm-Music.txt, which is found in your Quakespasm folder.

5) Open Quakespasm.exe and bring down the console by pressing ` on your keyboard (above the Tab key).

6) In the new console window, type game mg1 and press enter.

7) Select New Game from the menu as normal.

Also, visit Quake 1 Secrets for guides for finding every Quake 1 secret.

You can also create a Windows shortcut to Dimension of the Machine. Make a shortcut to Quakespasm.exe and use -game mg1 as the parameter.

Follow the instructions below:

It might be the build if Quake that ships with Microsoft's PlayFab;

https://playfab.com/

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/gaming/playfab/what-is-playfab

In short, Microsoft's PlayFab is a service for managing live-service games/games as a service (games like for example, Fortnite, Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, MultiVersus and many others)

The highlighted features available in the second link include things like, player authentication across many platforms, chat, A/B testing, leaderboards, economy and virtual currencies, content delivery network (CDN), dedicated servers for hosting the game, DDoS monitoring and protection, matchmaking, and even anticheat.

I haven't been able to play Quake Remastered yet, but I think they might be using PlayFab for hosting some servers, online multiplayer and matchmaking, leaderboards, their CDNs for hosting and delivering the optional mods.

I cannot say for granted which one of those features they might be using in the game, but I think in they might at the very least be using it for telemetry.
