Hi together,

to get music it's absolutely simple.

Rename the ogg files in the music folder.

track02.ogg to 02.ogg
track03.ogg to 03.ogg

and so on.

Then you have the right music files in every version of the game.

It seems to be a little mistake only ;-)
Is that for Quake 1 and Quake 2 or just Quake 2?

djdarko: Make a backup of your files beforehand, I suggest starting with a clean installation - you can also use Galaxy to "Manage Installation" and "Verify / Repair", otherwise read on!

Quake 1

Download QuakeSpasm (quakespasm-0.93.1_win64.zip)
webpage
file download

Open the "quakespasm-0.93.1_win64.zip" file and extract the contents of the inside folder to your Quake installation folder. (Overwrite any files if prompted.)

Download Quake 1 Music *
music download

Create "music" subfolders as follows, and unpack the .flac files to their appropriate folder:
id1\music <sndtrk_q1.zip>
hipnotic\music <sndtrk_q1_exp1.zip>
rogue\music <sndtrk_q1_exp2.zip>

Go back into your main Quake folder:
Rename the file "Glquake.exe" to "Glquake.exe.bak"
Rename the file "quakespasm.exe" to "Glquake.exe"

You may now use your Quake shortcuts, or Galaxy to launch your game of choice.

Run each game/expansion and setup your controls and video, check if the music plays. Have fun!

Quake 2

Download Yamagi Quake II (quake2-7.41.zip)
webpage
file download

Explore your Quake 2 folder and delete these files:

3.20_Changes.txt
quake2.exe
ref_gl.dll
ref_soft.dll
baseq2\gamex86.dll
baseq2\maps.lst
ctf\ctf2.ico
ctf\gamex86.dll
ctf\readme.txt
ctf\server.cfg
xatrix\gamex86.dll
rogue\gamex86.dll

djdarko: Now, open the "quake2-7.30.zip" file, and extract the contents of the inside folder to your Quake 2 installation folder. (Overwrite any files if prompted.)

Download Quake 2 Music **
music download

Create "music" subfolders as follows, and unpack the .ogg files to their appropriate folder:
baseq2\music <sndtrk_q2.zip>
rogue\music <sndtrk_q2_exp1.zip>
xatrix\music <sndtrk_q2_exp2.zip>

You may now use your Quake 2 shortcut, or Galaxy to launch your game of choice.

Run each game/expansion and setup your controls and video, check if the music plays. Have fun!

* These are lossless "accurate rip" flac files. Note: I am not convinced that Quake 1 has "pre-emphasis", so I have left the files exactly as they are on my retail disc. But for the sake of completion, I have included both SoX and iTunes de-emphasized copies of my original rip, those files can be found here.

** These are the highest quality .ogg files (Quality 10). They are sourced from "accurate rip" flac files. They are higher quality than the .ogg files provided by GOG, and I have included "The Reckoning" files as well. If Yamagi Quake II is ever updated to support .flac, those files can be found here.

Bonus, if you're really picky.

This is a pack that fixes the mastering error "click" at the beginning of "Operation Overlord" (AKA Quake 2 Track 02, and The Reckoning Track 07). I've included separate fixes for both tracks, in both .flac and .ogg format. Can we say "OCD" boys and girls?
Really? Mega?... WHY?.... I can't... why?

I tried to download Q1 and Q2 soundtrack, but Mega says something about a limit reach...ok, so I tried again only to download the Q1 soundtrack, but the limit was already reached... why upload anything that have a download limit quota? Whats the point?

Thankfull I found someone who is capable of reasoning, but is only for Q2:

Mega was much more reliable back when I posted that.

Hi, you need to extract the .ogg files directly to each folder.

For example:

sndtrk_q2_ogg.zip (place these files as shown below)
E:\GOG Games\Quake II\baseq2\music\02.ogg
E:\GOG Games\Quake II\baseq2\music\03.ogg
E:\GOG Games\Quake II\baseq2\music\04.ogg

E:\GOG Games\Quake II\baseq2\music\10.ogg
E:\GOG Games\Quake II\baseq2\music\11.ogg

sndtrk_q2_exp1_ogg.zip (place these files as shown below)
E:\GOG Games\Quake II\rogue\music\02.ogg
E:\GOG Games\Quake II\rogue\music\03.ogg
E:\GOG Games\Quake II\rogue\music\04.ogg

E:\GOG Games\Quake II\rogue\music\09.ogg
E:\GOG Games\Quake II\rogue\music\10.ogg
E:\GOG Games\Quake II\rogue\music\11.ogg

sndtrk_q2_exp2_ogg.zip (place these files as shown below)

Thanks For That
Thank you very much, djdarko! Your guide was very useful to me. It's my first time playing Quake so I don't know how the music must sound. But, when I use the de-emphasized soundtrack in quakespasm, the music is very low. So I prefer your straight rip. Besides I read this thread https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php?topic=104876.0[/url] and it convinced me.

Just wondering, how do you enable the crosshair in Quake 1 with these patches installed?

matteste: Just wondering, how do you enable the crosshair in Quake 1 with these patches installed?
Hi, excuse the late reply.

To enable the crosshair:

In the game, tap the tidle key (`), this will bring up the command menu, then type:
crosshair 1

Then, to make the crosshair larger, type:
scr_crosshairscale # [# = the desired size from 1 to 10]
ex.
scr_crosshairscale 2

The expansions require the same adjustments.

Alternately, you can modify those exact parameters in the "config.cfg" files. (Always make a backup beforehand.)

The main game and each expansion has it's own settings:
\Quake\id1\config.cfg
\Quake\rogue\config.cfg
\Quake\hipnotic\config.cfg

AnimalMother117: HUUUGE thanks! I tried several of the source ports on my own, and I couldn't get them to work. I recently bought the GOG version just to end my suffering, and then that one was not working either. But now it works. Thanks once again.

Hey there!

Does this procedure also work with vkQuake for the first Quake? I'm interested to get it running, but I found Vulkan port of Quake is the one that runs best on my PC.

If I'm reading this info correctly, the soundtrack setup should work exactly the same:

Strange, what happens when you try to use it? Does the game boot at all?
