have you cheched ../id1 folder (directory) by chance?
standard filename examples (Quakespasm, Win7x64):
s0.sav
s1.sav
s2.sav
s3.sav
...
and so on

I on the other side think that Quake OST is the best RED Book Audio ever created for the whole FPS genre, it's extremely creepy (and let's not forger how many ambient sounds comes with it).

You might think that choosing Hard skill would be wise to get as much entertainment as possible. That would be a wise decision to do, believe me.

Have you ever opened the command prompt? What do you think the "dir" and "cd" commands are?
