Any word on the sequel to this fantastic gem of a game? The ending was pretty much pointing towards one..

One thing that I think would show up is the mysterious duel that broke Ford Cruller's mind. Maybe a new villain that caused this?

Because the sequel would cost $18 million.

Last year (2013) Minecraft's developer Markus “Notch” Persson was actually in talk with Double Fine's Tim Schafer to fund Psychonauts 2. At first Tim Schafer told Persson the sequel would cost "a couple million". Then, when Schafer told Persson that he wanted $18 million for the sequel, Persson balked at the amount. (Why would it cost $18 million?!?)

Persson actually made the announcement himself on Reddit. I don't think any investor would be willing to put out $18 million for Psychonaut 2, and Kickstarter would not be able to raise that kind of money.

Thanks for the insights. That's a bit sad, because this game is indeed a little gem.
Now that Broken Age is out of the way, and Massive Chalice seems to be making waves (has anyone played that btw? It's so damn good!), perhaps DF can look at trying to partially fund a sequel via investors (such as the new billionaire Notch) and then go to Kickstarter to raise the rest of the funds.

It seems Broken Age is copping a lot of flak, but in my honest opinion it is a fairly great game. Not perfect, but I feel they delivered an adventure game that was true to their Kickstarter promise, and I really enjoyed Schafer going into uncharted territory in terms of his writing style.

Now let's get back to the zany DF we all love with Psychonauts 2!

Double Fine just started a campaign for partial crowdfunding of Psychonauts 2.
