Hey, I've been playing Psychonauts for a while and it's great, but I have gotten stuck. The game crashes every time I try to start the cutscene when starting up that machine thing after meeting with Sasha Nein for the first time. I have tried it again and again, and it crashes without fail at this specific cutscene.

This happened once before at the concluding cutscene after Basic Braining but after trying it again it worked.

I looked up the problem on the forum and have tried running the game in compatibility mode but when I do this, the game doesn't recognize my save files. It acts like I've started the game up for the first time. I have also tried disabling FSAA like one thread recommended but this didn't work either.

I hope someone can help me solve this because this game has been amazing so far.

My specs:
Intel i7 2600K
Nvidia GTX 570 HD
8 GBs RAM
Windows 7 (64 Bit)

Well, compatibility mode is the only solution that anyone has found useful. So the easiest approach would be to find a way to get your save files transfered. I just tried firing the game up in compatibility mode and it crashed, so I don't think I can help you finding the new save game location. I can tell you that the save location when not in compatibility mode is "C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Psychonauts\Profiles" REPLACE <your username> with your actual user name.

In win98 mode it must be somewhere simpler, as the whole users concept didn't exist, so try saving a game, and see where it puts it. My guess is that it goes into the program files directory. Failing that you can just search your hard drive for "Profile 1 - Raz".

Sorry I can't be more help.
Thank you so much! With Windows 7, the save files were in a hidden folder, and in compatibility mode they were in the Program Files folder. I just copied over the save data and there was no more crashing! Thanks again for your help, I should of thought of this myself.

The only thing that has worked for me, after trying all the other methods listed in this forum, was to set Compatibility Mode to "Windows 95". That's what they recommended doing on the Double Fine website. I just wanted to share that here.
