Has anyone gotten this game to run in either Wine or Virtualbox? I really really want to play this game without having to set up a dual boot...

If you have, could you reply with the version you're using, etc? I've included some info below, maybe you can tell what my problems are:

----

In both WINE and VirtualBox (VBox), I can watch the intro video, and then the screen goes black.

In VBox, I get no error message; VBox just aborts and crashes.
In WINE, I get this error message: Crash 0x8000101
Some digging reveals that the WINE error message is likely related to DLLs. Not entirely sure how.

I have the latest stable updates for VBox and Wine (Wine 1.2). Dxdiag in VBox reveals that DirectX 9 is functional.

I am running Linux Mint 8 (Helena)... it runs Ubuntu packages, though.
Video card: ATI Mobility FireGL V5250
In VBox, I run a Windows XP Guest. I've tried both low (256MB) and high (512MB) memory; neither works. I have the video memory set at 128MB.

Um, let me know if you need more info! Thanks!!

[edit]: oh, also, I tried to install the patch from the psychonauts website, but it said it couldn't find an existing installation....

I had absolutely no problems (well, it crashed on me three or four times total on my entire playthrough). I seem to recall playing this when Ubuntu 10.10 first came out, so 1.2.2 is my wine version.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were the ATI card you were running, sadly. I use Nvidia's proprietary blob driver.

Have you considered using the unstable version of wine? It might work a little better for you. I would be more wary about the ATI drivers giving issues as track record show that they tend to be less reliable, unfortunately.

I don't know about Virtualbox as I don't use it, sorry.
I have the same problem wit an ati card, no idea how to fix it. However in any other pc run fine,
try installing via playonlinux, It worked for me, but still has some issues my characters look funny, cheers
