Zomboid is a good game if you buy it knowing development is taking so butt-fucking long. I got back into it because they announced the creative mode but then decided to do cars and weather, and still working on animations for what ... 4 years now?

And yea it's highly annoying, but it's a good game as it is and fun to play. I own it both on GoG and Steam (GoG was day one purchase when they released here), so I don't run into a problem joining servers, but I do think they should implement Galaxy so GoG users aren't screwed. There's really nothing like this game online, it's fun as hell. There's nothing like chasing down punks with a shotgun that just tried to kill you.

But the devs don't really have a reasonable excuse for taking this long, especially with how many people they've brought in. I've seen games with in-house engines take less development time. All this time would have been better spent just rewriting their own engine, and they'd probably be able to implement shit faster than having to work around java.

If you're looking for a good zombie survival game this is certainly worth the money, though. And at least it's still getting slow updates.
2019 and the crowbar item still graphically looks like a baseball bat lol, there's no excuse for this
Project Zomboid still is the only "early access" game I ever bought.I admit I love the game but the more time passes, the more I get the feeling that the devs are trolling or have gone insane.

It's a fact that they post updates on their blog every week detailing the game's progress, but 99% of game development seems to be centered about "cosmetics" (blood spots on floor and clothes, reflections, etc etc etc). It'd make far more sense if they had focused on new game mechanics (like they did with the vehicles). As far as I can see the game is pratically finished, but it almost look like the devs went OCD on the game and they want to make THE perfect survival simulation, which is an obvious utopic idea.

IMO it'd make far more sense if the devs finally released the game as "finished" and focused on creating new DLCs or free updates with new content as it happens with the "Terraria" game.

i agree, its finished as it is, any cosmetic, fixes and filler stuff they can add as free updates with announcements to generate interest. i dont even use the newset most lauded additions (cars and mechanic). too unweildy imo for solo play, rather just creep around and do mah thang. your mention of the OCD slant is interesting, its like they are unwilling to let their baby go and be free. a labor of love thats become too smothering. regardless, i often think of project zomboid and am just letting enough time to pass before starting a fresh game. its my gold standard for builder survival type games.
2021 and still lies among bullshit fake news from their moderators, they even disabled multiplayer 3 years ago and claim to work on fixing it, apparently it's coming in december / january 2022 max but i wouldn't believe that.
