I've found many of the spells I have so far are underwhelming, executer seems to be useless unless the scaling is only meaningful when you have very high strength and spirit, even then the mana consumption is so high i still dont know why someone would choose it over a weapon upgrade.

Is holy guard and the Lightning Ball one any good?

I AM quite enjoying the game though, i think some of the magic needs to be rebalanced to be on par with the crazy weapon upgrades.

The freeze spell is pretty good, and "sammoner" is also useful. If you use any spells in this game, the freeze spell is the one to get. I liked to pair it with the axe with lifestealing upgrade.

Lightning ball is okay, but in my experience, it uses too much mana and has too short of a range to be of much use when you could also just use a minigun or something. Holy guard, it works but I wouldn't say it's essential.

I only bought Bomberman and the lightning one. Bomberman is buggy. It's supposed to use 1 dynamite to throw a super powerful one, but more often than not when I cast it, it would bounce off an enemy and fly off into the skybox, never exploding. The lightning one is really good but I guess it's bugged to need a dynamite.
Sammoner and the light spell are very useful. Just remember to use Sammoner BEFORE you run out of ammo. You cannot switch to a weapon that doesn't have any ammo.
Just gonna harp on what others have said. Sammoner. It doesn't cost you an arm and a leg in Upgrade Points while still being super handy.
Great, thank you. I actually just got Sammoner going through the city first time, yeah it's great :D
