Whenever I try to access the graphics options (either through the main menu or during gameplay), the game crashes and gives an error regarding "Engine_pc."

Does anybody know how to fix this?

I have the exact same problem. Did you manage to solve it?

My specs:
Asus A46CM notebook
Intel® Core™ i5 3317U Processor
Windows 8 64-bit (DON'T ASK WHY! It comes pre-installed :-P )
Memory DDR3 4GB
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 635M 2GB

Because I cannot access the graphics setting, it is currently stuck with 640*480 resolution that makes it rather unplayable to me. Note that the game runs fine in the correct resolution in Ubuntu with wine in another computer, but since the days of UEFI I have not get around yet to dual-boot my laptop (in the past prior to UEFI I simply used wubi to install Ubuntu alongside Windows) and I may also break my laptop warranty by doing so (yes, the local computer vendors are THAT BAD here).

Having the exact same issue. Even tried the "safe mode" executable to see if... it would be .. safer..

On my AMD Radeon it works fine, even in Windows 8.
Maybe this issue is related only to certain graphic cards or even drivers.

Same for me but game already looks decent enough like Mass Effect so no need to change graphics. ;-)

But actual game feels like Binary Domain prequel, if you know the latter you will see. I mean Minoko looks similar to Faye and whole setting is city above abyss, cyber-mongrels, robots and such.
