I got a copper sword from old woman and it is unidentified weapon...

Isn't it possible to identify items in stores?
Also... according to the walthrough the old lady provides a low-level random magic sword (it seems the stats always change every game).

karnak1 is correct. Stores can identify items for fee. Haven't played this game in ages but I believe the icon looks like a magnifying glass.
Also if I remember right Fu Su can learn an identification skill as he levels up. Or maybe the wizard class? Anyway one of the classes can eventually learn an ID skill.
