Fairly recently, because The Sands of Time is one of my favorite video games ever, I picked up a four pack of Prince of Persia games. I was wondering if there is any possible way to use a PS3 controller to play them, as I have fond memories of playing The Sands of Time on my PS2, and I would like to recreate that experience. Also, the thought of playing these games with a keyboard and mouse seems just awful.

Yes. You'll need a program called MotionInJoy to set up the controller. It allows the PS3 controller to communicate with the PC. It can also emulate an Xbox 360 controller for games that have XInput support.

Sands of Time does support controllers, but I'm pretty sure the game came out before XInput, so it uses the DirectInput method of controller support. This means that with the Xbox 360 emulation turned on in MotionInJoy, you will not be able to use the L2 and R2 buttons natively in the game (as they are considered an Axis on the Xbox 360 and not buttons). Therefore, you may want to either disable Xbox 360 emulation for Sands of Time, or use a profiler like Xpadder or Pinnacle to map the keyboard commands to the L2/R2 buttons.

Edit: Check out the MotionInJoy site as it looks like there could be a profiler built in to the DS3 Tool (the UI for the MotionInJoy driver).

Hope this helps. =)

No problem. I use a PS4 controller with DS4Win (a very similar driver to MotionInJoy). Still haven't got the Blutooth dongle working correctly yet, but once I do, wireless here we come! =)

Best part is using the track pad on the controller as a mouse. Not great for day-to-day use, but for quick mouse duties, works quite well.
