Mitsukuni: Hi all,
I made a guide for fixing Port Royale 2 on Windows 10. It's on Steam but I thought you also would like to know about it since it's not platform related.
But seems like because of I didn't post on these forums before I cannot share any link here. Anyway, you can search for it on Steam's Port Royale 2 Community Hub with the same title.
Have a nice day.
Pilz: Hey Mitsukuni,
tried your fix for Nvidia cards, my problem is that if I start a game the hourglass fills up and I hear game sound, but it sends me right back to the menu screen, without any of the menu oiptions actually showing, i.e. all I see is the rendered "main screen". Tried checking different options in the configs and different compatability modes.
Any idea on how to fix it? Didn't find anything in the discussion under your guide, seems like no one else is having this problem. RTX 2060 if it matters.
Thanks for you guide!
Sorry for the late reply, I just noticed.
Some people mentioned that those 2 guides (AMD and Nvidia specific ones) not every time working and at one point, after some Windows 10 update I also had the same problem. So I chose a different approach. Since it's working perfect on Linux, I just tried changing DLL files from Steam Proton and it actually worked. So would you also try that one with including changing DLL files? It has the same name with this topic. Also thanks to some guy, I also added a solution for very fast map movement. It appears to be FPS related.
You're welcome and hope I can help.
michiel1982: I found your guide I think, the one mentioning replacing 3 files. And for Nvidia (Geforce 980M) changing some settings with the anisotropic and antialiasing.
Besides that for my laptop I needed to set the compatibility to "windows xp SP2" specifically to fix the water. :) Sp3 didn't work. Specifically SP2.
Thanks for the feedback. :)
I added the last guide because previous ones don't work for some people anymore exactly, that includes me. I think it changes system to system, like people have Intel cards mostly do not need any tweak, the game just works after installation for them. If you used guide about DLLs you shouldn't need to also enable compatibilty settings. Though I still need clarification for some parts. Do you have DirectPlay enabled on your Windows?
