Can't launch Populous The Beggining and I'm not entirely sure as to what I should be doing to try and solve this issue.


My graphic card is AMD Radeon HD 6970M so it shouldn't be the usual compatability issue... Anyone got any ideas as to how to solve my issue? I don't get any specific error message, instead the game just doesn't launch and then my entire taskbar freezes up.

1) What EXE are you running through? D3DPopTB.exe or PopTB.exe?
2) Have you tried changing compatibility mode of the shortcut to something like Windows XP (SP3) or Windows Vista?

I've tried changing compatibility mode to XP (SP3) and I'm running PopTB.exe mainly.
Tried D3DPopTB.exe but the game seemed to launch even less, since previously I at least got an error message that said "The game has crashed" but D3DPopTB.exe it didn't even seem to load.

same problem here with nvidia geforce 710M

It keeps saying 'Incomplete registry information' then it crashes.

The installation has likely been interrupted at some point. Uninstall the game and reinstall it.

@Others: What OS are you using? If it's Windows 8, it may just be a game limitation that the game will not run on this version of Windows.

I've gotten it to work by right clicking and selecting "Run as Administrator". (In Windows 7)

Same with me using AMD Hd6850. However software renderer works but i really want to play it with graphic card support.

For newer AMD cards solution is to use DxWnd

So step by step:
1) Download and unpack DxWnd
2) Run the program as admin
3) File - > Import -> Navigate to exports folder and chose "Populous 3 (GOG - D3D).dxw" -> Open
4) Right click on the new entry - > Modify -> Change path (so it points to the "D3DPopTB.exe")
5) Can tweak few other options (if you want it to run in fullscreen untick "Run in window" in the main tab)
6) Confirm your options and leave the program running
7) Go to your game folder and run shortcut "Launch Populous - The Beginning" as admin.
