Hey, guys,

There was a guy I saw on YouTube who was saying that POD doesn't have a story and that the ending is lame.

While the second is a really subjective matter (and I actually don't agree with him :D), POD actually has quite a large storyline that UbiSoft published with some editions of the hardcover game manual.

The link to the English version:
web.archive.org/web/20040223210542/pod.ubi.com/ENGLISH/preview/story/index.html

The Jupiter State museum:
witnessteam.free.fr/histoire/jupiter/ncterm04/index.html

All credits go to the Wayback Machine, Phreakindee, The Jupiter State Museum and Freddy (an old pro from back in the days) for preserving and helping me find the whole story.

EDIT 19.02.2015: I completely forgot to mention the POD Wiki:

web.archive.org/web/20130526124030/podwiki.org/index.php?title=Category:Story

All credits go to DebugErr (the original creator) and Glitchfinder.

EDIT 21.02.2015: This one was really hard to find as for some reason the Wayback Machine doesn't display the site's sidebar, but here it is - the French version:

web.archive.org/web/20020608055542/sites.ubisoft.fr/pod/FRENCH/preview/story/

Happy reading! :D

Cheers,

I remember translating the German diary of Police Officer Derek, but my translations and original scans from Glitchfinder were lost, guess where, in the "podwiki", lol.

As interesting as it may seem, the POD devs actually had ideas for a continuation of the story after the last survivor got off Io.

The continuation in English:

The continuation in French:

You can see some screenshots of what is probably the "full" Arcade and some vehicles that were probably going to be featured in POD 2.

You can also see Arcade and some more "secret" cars at Phoenix's POD page:

Reading the bullet list at the bottom, it all sounds like it only came out for the Dreamcast eventually.

and yeah, that's the tunnel how it really looks in Arcade(++).

That's a really interesting read! Didn't know they went to so much trouble to provide a believable background story. To be quite honest, if you judge the story of POD by what is revealed in the intro video, it really does suck ("planet threatened by 'some sort of virus'"). But now that I think of it, it actually makes some sense that the story told in the introduction is incomplete and wrong in parts ("it's a fungus, not a virus"), as the video is narrated by one of the remaining survivors that probably does not have access to complete information.
Many thanks for all the links - awesome read! :)

I really enjoyed POD, and even wrote a fairly lengthy review on the game's store page though hardly anyone will see it. I will also second what someone else said: I don't usually have even a passing interest in racing games, but POD is an exception :)

Cheers!
