Sid Meier's Pirates! has undergone several remakes over the years... when GOG stated that they offer the original and remake version... I missunderstood... I thought that by remake they would mean the newest remake which is more of a cartoony game made for windows PC... Not sure when this perticular remake was made but i don't believe its the one that GOG offer.

Yeah the on that GOG has is the original remake called Pirates! Gold which was made in the early 90's and from what I remember of it is a quite faithful remake of the original game with updated graphics,music, and a few gameplay fixes and a more mouse driven interface the one your thinking off came out during the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube generation so around 2004 I believe that one is owned by 2K games and again was a quite faithful remake save for those mini games like the ballroom dancing one(I detested those) so yeah until 2k signs with GOG if your looking for that version your best bet is to find it on Amazon, Ebay, or Steam.

I'm very happy with the GOG version. It would be nice to also see the other sometime in the future, but this one made me definitely more happy.

Pirates! Gold was the first "pirate style" game I ever played and loved it from first second. This game is just awesome and better than new Sid Meier's Pirates! in my opinion.
I'm so excited that GOG released this game!

One of my fav's of all time. I enjoy the 2K one also. Hard to get the dancing down but enjoy the Governor laughing at me. I will also get my beloved classic pirates too. Think I might have played these more hours than any game I can think of.
