I was sure it was this game but I remember there was like 100 pages that wasn't how to play it was almost like a pirate encyclopedia and reading it and learning a lot about sugar cane

Book III in the manual has a bunch of historical info but that might not be what you're remembering.

pirates 1987 has an 83 page manual, but not pirates gold, as far as I know.
it might be in your account . under Pirates!
