For starters, I know that equipped item effects do not stack (neck, belt, helmet, rings, bracers), and that the game will just use the higher effect of two items that have the same enhancement.

However, I read either on a load screen or in the manual (idr which, other than that it was an official source, not a random user post) that effects on armor and shields DO stack with items (listed above).

So, I have an amulet (neck) item on my mage that increases INT by 2, and I also enchanted her armor with a +2 INT. This SHOULD give me an INT score of 22, but instead it is only 20 - so obviously they are not stacking.

Is my info wrong or is this a bug? Has anyone done this and they DID stack? I am currently playing 1.03 (no hotfix) and nearing the end of the game. I'm not going to implement 1.04 until this play is over.

Thanks

Ah, no. There are two groups of items: Weapons and everything else. So when you would have a bonus on a weapon that can also appear on a ring, amulet, armor or whatnot, they would stack. The game considers SHIELDS as weaponry, which is why the retaliation shield actually stacks with either the armor or the cloak that also gives retaliation, while the cloak and the armor would not stack.

The stacking retaliation property is pretty ridiculous by the way. :)
Is very easy to be sure, in the charachter sheet, anything in grey in the talents and abilities is a stacked property of lesser quality.

Thanks.

I must have read or remembered it wrong whenever I read it.

So weapons and shields = yes, armor = no.

Unfortunately I wanted attributes to stack, and I don't believe you can enchant attributes on either weapons or shields .... just armor.
Yeah, there's no way to permanently get more than +3 to any attribute, but there's always a resting bonus to be had, food to be eaten and the, uhm, Salty Mast Bonus for Lecherous Activities (tm) will also stack with both the resting bonus and any enchantments on your items (but not with the food I think).

Which means unless you totally dumped a stat you can probably always invest a little time and money to pass those higher stat checks.

ghosterl:
Also i found that you can use spells also to get higher stats for conversations.. Too bad i found out a tad late..
