General

Re-enabed tutorial and glossary entry for Counters and updated their strings to match the current in-game behavior.
Typed Afflictions that aren't given priority are considered top priority, (Petrified and Frozen now supersede Hobble, Immobilize, & Paralyze).
Halved the bonus PL poisons receive from Alchemy and status effect damage scaling has been reduced from +10% / PL to +5% (in line with other damage scaling bonuses).
Traps no longer show level scaling due to character level in their stat blocks.
Slog Zones now reapply their effects to character in the slog on interval.
Creatures
Magma Ooze emerge ability now displays a proper string when commanded to move during its emerge.

Ranger Companions attack speed Average Recovery -> Fast Recovery and their armor penalty has been reduced from a 0.6 factor to 0.8 (-25%).
Stalker's Link accuracy bonus now properly only applies when the animal companion threatens the same target.
Monk
Stunning Surge will no longer refund its cost twice if dual wielding and both attacks crit.
Priest
Spark the Souls of the Rightous now correctly rolls against Reflex when dealing damage.

Shroud of the Phantasm - A new community-designed cape, the Shroud of the Phantasm seems to grant the wielder the favor of Wael, though the will of the God of Secrets is all but impossible to discern for certain. Wearers gain the ability to manifest illusory duplicates and are rarely, if the God of Secrets is watching, struck with bolts of understanding capable of turning the tide of battle. You can find this magical item hidden within Berkana's Observatory.
Ability Tree Preview - Thanks to our programming team, the Class Ability Tree can now be viewed outside of the level up screen! This can be done from the Inventory/Character Sheet UI, or when recruiting a new companion.
New Magran's Fires Challenges added - New challenges and old favorites have been added for players that want a difficult experience with a twist. These challenges can be found by clicking the head of Magran at the bottom of the Title Menu.
Skaen's Challenge
The Fog of War is greatly reduced around the Player's Character.
Torches can help increase the vision area.
Abydon's Challenge
Weapons and Armor now degrade during adventuring.
Weapons and Armor can be repaired for a price through the Enchanting Menu.
Enchanting UI Update
The Enchanting Menu has received a visual re-work. Enchantment progression paths are now much clearer, and it should be easy to tell if a new enchantment will replace or rework an old enchantment.
Audio Combat Remixing - Our audio team has remastered in-game combat sounds, resolving a suite of bugs and generally improving the game as per community feedback:
Combat Chatter now provides more critical feedback and is easier to understand during combat.
Creatures have been tuned to spam sounds less
Ability audio has been tuned to react to other sounds (i.e. gets softer when combat chatter is playing)

FPS degradation over time that was introduced in v2.0.1 no longer occurs.
Party companion portraits are now saved after restarting the game.
Items are no longer duplicated when using the Quickload feature during item transactions.

New Berath's Blessings - New and exciting blessing come in to add some interesting replayability to the Deadfire:
Loaded Pockets - NPC pockets are filled with more and rarer items.
Legendary Crew - 3 Veteran Sailors become available in the Kraken's Eye tavern, they are better than normal and cheaper than normal.
Discount Craftsman - Crafting and enchanting costs are reduced.
Mythical Discovery - Start with a Mythical Adra Stone in the prologue armoire (free upgrade from Legendary → Mythic Quality)
New Ranger Abilities - Five new Ranger abilities have been added to the Ranger's arsenal of skills:
Hunter's Claw - 2 Bond Full Attack, The first target hit with this grants +1 Accuracy vs the target's Race until Rest. Subsequent hits against the same race will increase stacks (up to +20). Resting clears all stacks and allows a different race to be chosen.
Hunter's Fang - Same as Hunter's Claw, but also grants +1% Damage per stack.
Beast's Claw - Same as Hunter's Claw, but also grants +1 Defense per stack.
Bonded Fury - 3 Bond, Grants the Ranger's Animal Companion all 6 Tier 2 Inspirations, for 30s.
Heart Seeker - 4 Bond, Primary Attack (Ranged Only) Fires an unerring ranged attack that strikes all characters in a line, dealing +100% Damage with +4 Penetration and Enfeebling for 20s.
Megaboss Battles - Megabosses make their debut with the first to make their way into the game with the first boss included in the patch; The Crystal Empress! Test your mettle against one the toughest fights within the game.

Ship Respawning - Ships will now respawn as captains are defeated on the world map to keep the seas interesting to traverse. Ships will not respawn for every captain defeated, but the seas will continue to be populated with ships of each faction.
- Ondra, Wael, & Woedica's Challenge - Three new exciting Challenges will be coming in with this patch:
- Ondra - Storms on the world map are bigger, faster, and more frequent and Enemy Captains and crew about the ship are increased in rank and travel faster when chasing the player.
- Wael - All numerical data for characters, spells, and items and more are hidden! This excludes Item Counts and Party Member Attributes, Skills, and Levels.
- Woedica - All Per-Encounter and Class resources become Per-Rest, Party Health no longer regenerates outside of combat, and only "Prepared Meals" will recover injuries and Resources.

- - Those who can rally their wit in the heat of battle are known as "Tacticians." These warriors see all forms of combat as only pieces moving in play. Frequently assuming leadership positions within a structured military, Tacticians weaponize cleverness and sharpen experience.

* Furyshaper (Barbarian)
- - Furyshapers carry a burden of trauma in their past lives, suffering when those emotions inexplicably bleed into their current psyche. These rare individuals can manifest their emotions in a physical form, inflicting their rage, terror, or madness onto the world.
- Bonus:
Gain Shape Ward: Frenzy at Power Level 1.
Gain Shape Ward: Fear at Power Level 4.
Gain Shape Ward: Blood at Power Level 8.
Gain bonus Accuracy against spirits.
- Penalty
If a Ward is destroyed, take immediate Raw Damage and a Power Level penalty until combat ends.
Will is reduced.

* Debonaire (Rogue)
- - As charming as they are devious, these rogues use cleverness and diplomacy to achieve their goals. Often acting only in self-interest, they have been known to contract high-society thefts, unveil scandals, or even perform the occasional white-glove assassination.
- Bonus:
Gain significant Hit to Crit against Charmed targets.
Gain Roguish Charm ability.
Gain Hit to Graze against attacks when not affected by any afflictions.
- Penalty
Cannot Engage.
Gain Cowardice ability.

* Steel Garrote (Paladin)
- - The Steel Garrote is a feared paladin order dedicated to Woedica. They work with powerful individuals and business interest to hunt down those who violate contracts, especially if said contracts were endorsed by a priestess of the Exiled Queen. They were founded in the Aedyr Empire and are active throughout the region - branching out as far as the Dyrwood and the Vailian Republics.
- Bonus
Heal for a portion of the damage dealt to afflicted targets.
Gain Garrote ability.

* Arcane Archer (Ranger)
- - A rare few find themselves gifted in both physical ability and the more cerebral, arcane talents. Arcane Archers are among those few, and apply their innate aptitude with magic by temporarily infusing spells into their projectiles. More commonly seen among traveling performers or during archery contests, these skilled individuals are both admired and reviled for their abilities.
- Bonus:
Imbue spell effects gain increased Accuracy from Arcana skill.
Gain Imbue: Missiles at Power Level 1.
Gain Imbue: Web at Power Level 3.
Gain Imbue: Fireball at Power Level 5.
Gain Imbue: Eora at Power Level 7.
Gain Imbue: Death at Power Level 9.
- Penalty
Receive a penalty to Accuracy with attacks not of the following traits: Imbue, Elements, Fire, Frost, Acid, Electricity, and Spell.
Max health is reduced.

* Forbidden Fist (Monk)
- - Followers of cryptic teachings rooted in a dark past, these monks are among the few granted - or cursed - with knowledge of forbidden techniques. Their martial prowess was said to corrupt the very soul of the wielder. Believing that great and terrible events justify their use, these monks travel Eora weighing the balance between the purity of their soul and the necessity of conflict.
- Bonus:
Gain Wounds and Health when Hostile effects expire.
Gain Forbidden Fist ability.
- Penalty
No longer gain Wounds from damage received.

* Bellower (Chanter)
- - Bellowers are often found in communities steeped in hardship, particularly among those that have experienced recent misfortune. Their tales better resemble a collections of ramblings and gibberish than coherent stories. Their name stems from the rare, violent, empassioned outbursts of fearsome magic.
- Bonus:
Invocations grant (and benefit from) a brief bonus to Power Level based on the number of held Phrases.
- Penalty
Invocations consume all remaining Phrases.
Chant radius is reduced.

* Priest of Woedica (Priest)
- - Priests and Priestesses of the Exiled Queen express their faith as lawyers and judges in towns and urban centers. The most prominent among them have served as advisers in royal court. They are of particular importance in the Empire of Aedyr, where business contracts require their endorsement. Woedica's devotees are typically found in the upper classes, but any tradition-minded person who longs for a vanished past will find a place in her faith. "When Woedica takes back her throne" is a common saying amongst her followers, signifying a utopian future when society will be properly ordered once again, and she will take her rightful place as ruler of the gods.
- Bonus:
Automatically learn the following priest spells at new power levels:

Gain bonus Power Level with Beast and Plant spells.
Automatically learn the following druid spells at new power levels:
1. Summon Sporelings
2. Hold Beasts
3. Wild Growth

* Blood Mage (Wizard)
- - Devoted to the belief that blood fuels the power of the soul, Blood Mages walk a painful and self-destructive path to arcane mastery. Though reputable animancers have discredited their beliefs, those few that have witnessed blood magic cannot deny that gratuitous self-harm can indeed preface unbelievable - often terrible - magical events.
- Bonus:
Gain Blood Sacrifice ability.
Gain passive health regeneration.
- Penalty
Unable to use Empower.
All defenses against bloodied attackers are reduced.

* Psion (Cipher)
- - Psions are quite rare, often beginning as prodigal young minds that slowly unlock secrets deemed incomprehensible to even the wisest scholars. Their powers require intense meditation, but can allow them to manipulate the conscious mind or move objects with incredible force.
- Bonus:
Gain Soul Mind passive ability.
Gain Telekinetic Burst ability.
- Penalty
Loses Soul Whip ability.
Receiving damage disables Soul Mind briefly.

Major Fixes & Updates

• Savegames with subdirectories in the zip no longer fail to load.
• If Beast of Winter is installed, you may now converse with Ydwin as you would a main companion.
• Summoned creatures now unsummon when their summoner is knocked out.
• The game will no longer return to the main menu after loading a save in particular scenes and exiting and re-entering that scene.
• Veteran Difficulty has been tuned to be slightly more difficult.

Changelog - Hotfix 4.0.1.0041 (20 December 2018)

Hello everyone!

We are releasing a small hotfix patch today to address some issues brought up by the community. Please see the patch notes listed below.

Please note that these notes contain spoilers:

Resolved issues:
* Removed the progression-breaking autosave before meeting Llengrath at the beginning of LAX03.
* Italian and Spanish languages now display God Challenge text.
* Starting a conversation with Fetid Spray while wearing Arkemyr's Robes does not repeat giving the instructions to the player.
* Llengrath encounter to start The Forgotten Sanctum DLC can no longer start during a storm.
* NPC ships on the world map will be placed back in the sea if they get stuck inland.
* Forbidden Fist Curse Damage when stacked is calculates as expected.
* Player's can now turn in Seeds of Deception to Llengrath and only Llengrath when they receive the quest from her.
* Izzia now appears for anyone who had previously spoken with her. New playthroughs will require the party to complete a specific encounter before she will appear in Periki's Overlook.

Known issues:
* Ydwin lines in Forgotten Sanctum are missing VO
* Player cannot provide Llengrath with the Modified Annals of Llengrath once she has moved into the Scriptorium.
* Work Around: Complete the quest Root and Branch prior to completing whichever wing of the Halls Obscured you decide to do second.

- A new way to adventure in the world of Eora, Turn-Based mode is an alternate way to play and experience combat in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. This is an Open Beta feature, and we'd love to hear from our players on how this mode feels, and any issues that arise from playing it. The new game mode can be selected by starting a new game and clicking on Turn-Based Mode.

Major Fixes & Updates


- Some instances of corrupted savegames have been resolved and can now be loaded correctly.
- Optimized performance when targeting attacks, particularly large AoEs.
- Fixed an issue where companion game objects were not removed if they left the party on the World Map.
- The player will no longer be returned to the main menu on transitioning to or from Nekataka.
- Random encounters in Neketaka are guaranteed to appear after a certain number of transitions.
- Party Members will no longer die when the player goes below deck on the ship.
- Characters will no longer reaching 0 HP and become invincible when affected by certain effects.

- The game no longer crashes on machines using Radeon graphics cards when the Beast of Winter destroys the bridge.

- Kalakoth's Freezing Rake hits only applies to Enemies as described.
- Concelhaut's Parasitic Quarterstaff Recovery Time link has been modified and corrected.

Fighter

- Black Jacket Fighters can take Rapid Recovery when leveling up.
- Fixed an issue with description of Black Jacket ability displaying text not related to the skill.
- Brilliant Tactician will no longer activate if there isn't an enemy present.

Ranger

- Arcane Archer "Imbue" attacks will no longer show extra projectiles when used with certain weapons, such as the Hand Mortar.

Monk

- Effects of Monk's "Turning Wheel" are no longer applied to damage other than melee.
- Forbidden Fist's "Forbidden Curse" can no longer become stuck with a negative duration when used with Clarity of Agony.

Cipher

- Beguiler bonus Focus will now be granted correctly if hitting multiple targets at the same time.
- Beguiler Focus will regenerate properly.
- Ciphers will receive focus for their first attack when attacking from stealth.

Priest

- Salvation of Time can no longer be empowered, since it does not benefit from scaling.

Chanter

- Prepared chants are now removed when respeccing a character.

Druid

- Fixed a bug with Wall of Frost displaying 0 base penetration.


Items


- Whispers of the Endless Paths' AoE Spells are no longer spamming attacks.
- Last Word is no longer missing its statblock.

- Fyonlecg will no longer introduce Memory Hoarder twice.
- The camera will now focus correctly when Modwyr speaks in dialogue.

Known Issues

* Jump points are not usable in Turn-Based combat: We are aware of this issue and are currently looking for a solution to address this problem.

Resolved Issues

* The storm cutscene will now always trigger properly after the introductory fight.
* The grimoire UI will now correctly display grimoires that are in stores and containers.
* The Infamous Captain passive no longer causes ship deck fights to start during the introductory cutscene. Additionally, the fear effect now only triggers in ship combats.
* In turn-based combat, all present enemies will now properly act in the first round instead of waiting until the second.
* Characters will no longer become stuck when trying to move near enemies in turn-based combat.
* The game will no longer pause when opening a tutorial during turn-based combat.
* Certain spells no longer consume Action Point from the character's next turn.
* Party members now move at the correct speed when in stealth.
* Characters with unused engagements will now engage enemies that move in range even if they are not the primary target.
* Characters will no longer say "Can't Do" barks when hovering enemies in turn-based mode.
* Many enemies with Might or Constitution affliction resistances will now defend against the correct effects.
* Combat is correctly started in Turn-Based Mode after kills made from stealth.

* The following trinkets will no longer prevent the player from losing their turn in turn-based mode:

* Characters will Graze on attack rolls of 1-49 in Turn-Based mode instead of 25-49.
* Adjusted Forbidden Fist ability:
- Reduced initial damage, but increased the damage bonus per curse to +50% (from +25%).
- Reduced the duration of the curse to 6s (from 10s).
- Reduced the added duration per use to 6s (from 10s).
- Added duration from subsequent curses will no longer increase the duration of the initial curse.
- Hid unnecessary self-application information from the combat log.
