I didn't finished reading the manual so it could be in it.

Anyway, this can be useful when you've found some traps in a room. While the game lack an automatic system to avoid the characters to step on a discovered trap, you can create a path by holding shift and setting a waypoint.

The UI will show just the first waypoint and the others will be showed only when the previous waypoint has been reached but still, better than waiting for any character to have completed a part of the path before setting the next point of movement.

Try in a safe, wide area first to understand how it works.
