You are probably right. It's more of a vague feeling of wanting to have it as "complete" as possible.

I backed the game at the Digital Collector's Edition tier which includes the pet. I used the royal edition code on steam and the hero edition code on gog. I prefer drm-free copies of my games, but it sometimes takes a while for gog to release new patches, so I used one of my keys for steam. Since all the things included in the royal edition can be downloaded from the backer portal, I figured I didn't need to worry about which code I used for steam. Unfortunately it seems the kickstarter dlc is based on the edition of the game... I know the pet is just cosmetic, but it still sucks... I'm not sure if there's anything that can be done about it though...

Yes, I've been wandering around graveyards with the thing too and haven't noticed anything. There are several places that can be described that way, though, so maybe I just haven't tried it in the right one. I'm done with it though. I don't care anymore.
