gr8fuldave: After deleting my original version and reinstalling, then applying the patches, the game will not launch. I get an error saying the application is damaged and should be moved to the trash.
Try this in terminal:
xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine <path to app>

gr8fuldave: I am afraid I have no idea how to use the terminal - when I typed that in I got a syntax error message, anyway.
1. Open Terminal.app
2. Copy and paste this part: xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine
3. Drag and drop your Pillars of Eternity.app into Terminal.
4. Press Enter
