I just got a Win10 rig and want to bring my Save Games over to the new machine so that I can keep playing. On my old XP rig it was My Documents/My Games/Pillars of Eternity.

The game installed OK on the new rig and I have even played a few "dummy" games and saved them. They all load OK so I know the dummy save files are there. However, I can't find the directory anywhere and I read an article where MS has removed the "My Games" folder in a recent Win10 update.

Where are my save games on the new WinXP rig so that I can move my save game file over from the old machine?

I have run various searches off of the Index, unhidden all folders and manually looked through the likely folders. Where are they?

Thanks. I agree that is where they should be. However after installing the game on the Win10 machine the \Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity folders were not created. Nonetheless, I can start a new game, save it, and then load it so it is being stored somewhere.

Is it possible that immediate Saves (one minute after character creation) are going into the Temp folder and that the Game doesn't generate a "true" .savegame file in ..\Users\<USER NAME>\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity\ until you are done with the initial Caravan map?

However, I did manually add the ..\Users\<USER NAME>\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity\ path and copied one of my .savegame files over from the other machine but Pillars does not detect this .savegame on the Load menu.

I really don't want to start from scratch, but I want to play on the new machine.

Another Windows 10 shenanigan. That is definitely where they should be. I can only suggest that you search your hard drive for "Pillars of Eternity" or ".savegame".
Thanks Hickory. I searched the Index for both "Pillars" and the ".savegame" suffix and nothing. I also used the Command Prompt to search the root directory with various search terms incorporating wild cards.

As an exercise, I put the game on an old Win7 rig that doesn't have a graphics card. Run slow but my purposes was to immediately do a save after character creation. All went well - the saved game is in the \Saved games\Pillars of Eternity folder on the Win 7 machine.

Nest step is to install it on my daughters Win10 rig to see if anything is different than the original Win10 rig I tried it on. If that install generates the \Saved games\Pillars of Eternity path, perhaps I'll do a reinstall on the original Win10 rig and see if that works.
They should be in your documents folder in a folder called 'Saved Games' on windows 10 anyway. In my case they are here C:\Users\MY USER NAME\Documents\Saved Games

Oops! I see you already know this : )

Alos, you can move it's locaton (the 'My Games' folder'). Right click on it and one of the tabs alows you to move it and all it's content and all games that use it will know.

I am running Win10x64, Hickory, and your info is correct--that is exactly where all of my saved games (a considerable number) are...;) Also, my "My Games" folder is wholly intact and accounted for...;)

Indeed, I am a beta tester for Win10x64, and have been since Oct 1/2014 (man, how time flies!) and I have installed pretty much every version of Win10x64 in beta that Microsoft has released--indeed, am now running build 17746-RS5--which is the next upcoming official build released in a few weeks--and my Pillars saved games are still there...;)

The only thing I can suggest is that the OP moved his game install over to the new OS installation without reinstalling the game--in which case where it puts the saved games would be up in the air, certainly. A reinstall of the game should fix his problem--unless he has other stuff going on, of course.
Thanks all of you for your help. I didn't revisit this issue until today and I think the problem is due to OneDrive. I think the Save Ganes are going into some OneDrive folder with hidden attributes that is not being indexed by Windows and therefore I can't find it!

Windows Explorer and File Explorer can'r find them although Cortana seemed to have found a path to them under a Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework but I can't seem to navigate there.

I am going to Uninstall, unlink from One Drive and reinstall and see if the correct path appears.

Before I do that, has anyone done an install with OneDrive already set up? Where do your save games go?
Well I finally found the SAVEGAME files and OneDrive was not the culprit. One thing that I failed to mention in my first post is that this is a work-issued PC, so technically not my own. I didn't think it mattered as its not really "'locked down". I am not the Admin but as the User I seem to have control over almost all settings including/installing removing software.

While I work locally and rarely ever connect to the corporate network (occasional VPN), the PC is configured for network access. Because of this, for some reason Pillars of Eternity stores the SAVEGAME files in:

Network > XXXXXXX-XXX > Users > xxxxxxxxxxx > Saved Games > Pillars of Eternity

...where XXXXXXX-XXX is a network location under Network. In other words, XXXXXXX-XXX appears on my PC as any other network location such as other PCs, printers, etc. This location does not fall under the "This PC" group . However, unlike other network PCs and printers, this location does is actually on my C: drive. I can confirm this by simply turning WiFi off and there is no ethernet or other connection.

However a search of C: using Windows/File Explorer will not find this location even after unhiding every Folder on C:. I only got here by using Cortana and once I found the location I was able to Pin the folder to Start and Quick Access so that I can easily access these files as it is not possible navigate this path using the file hierarchy using Windpws/File Explorer. If I simply select Network, the XXXXXXX-XXX object does not appear alongside the other PCs and printers and since Network is not actually a directory, I can't change its properties to show hidden files.

Anyway, I can now switch my SAVEGAME files between PCs since I know where (but not why) they are stored. If someone has something to add, feel free - maybe this thread will help somebody in the future.
