Hi lovely people!

I have played this game off and on since it was new in 1999 and it was always my favourite. I have done all the campaigns over and over again and never got tired.

I can hate new games for charging money for every single update. Pharaoh/Cleopatra only charged for the initial CD and nothing more. I still have the original CD-ROM here. Later I have played sad and tiresome games when they always want me to pay more to continue playing. That never happened to me with Pharaoh/Cleopatra.

I last reainstalled this game when my computer was new in 2018 and enjoyed every minute of playtime until Microsoft forced me to upgrade to the awful Windows 10. And then the problems began.

I had all my sav-files on this computer, but could not start the game. All problems showed up:
Freezing
Sound looping
Total system crash
Never being able to start the game again.

Until today, thanks to you, guys!!

I Downloaded a new pharaoh.exe with the aparently common patch for the widescreeen (a RAR file found linked to in this community )
I Downloaded two ini-files and a map-file from a conversation found here in this community. (I am so sorry to not give you the URL but I had to restart my computer so many times I lost it!)

I have replaced my pharaoh.exe and changed my settings on the exe-compability tag (they are in swedish, so I can not post exactly) to compability with windows 98 (Win 7 did not work) and changed the DPI Settings to not accepting changes. I Also changed the colors to 264, which sem important, before that all crashed.
I also changed the fullscreen option.

I can give more information if anyone is interested, but for now I am playing :) :)

Turn if the music. You can keep the city sounds and you can get the music playing from youtube. The crashes should stop. Not sure what in the in game music makes it crash, but turning it off, seems to fix it.

Regular freezes/crashes of the game are associated with a bug in the playback of sounds.

Especially strong when "Compatibility WindowsXP(sp2/sp3)"
Use "Compatibility Windows95/98"

The user reports that after updating mss32.dll and MP3DEC.ASI the problem was solved.

When you have more than 2 speakers (2.1 or 5.1 or 7.1 sound)
Also, modern sound cards can work in surround sound emulation mode.
Older games don't know what surround sound is.
Download "Version 0.12", unpack and move to the game folder.

(or "Version 0.14" with EAX=off by default)
This dsound.dll replaces the native one from DirectX, like a wrapper, reconciles the old with the new.
