i purchased the game and installed thru the galaxy app on my win10 desktop. it ran fine, but with ugly black bars along the left and right edges of my monitor, typical of old games in 4k. a google search lead to some steam discussion linking an old fan patch which required java, or actual hex editing in the game files. all too much effort for me!

so i downloaded a program called dxwnd. installed and followed the prompts to link patrician 3. clicked run, and crash to desktop. not the right direction! tried to import some settings, no luck. started from scratch to configure the dxwnd, and right off, in the compat tab, ticking the bypass gog libs got the game running, but still with black bars. after further experimentation, in the video tab, under screen resolution, ticked HD (16:9). great success! the menu page is still cropped, but the game itself runs full screen windowed at 4k- it's like a remaster. some additional settings i use with dxwnd: in main tab, ticked hide desktop background, keep aspect ratio, and desktop. also, the in game setting for resolution is set to 1024x768. hope this helps someone, maybe i should copy paste this as a review.
