Hello!

I was listening to the band Witchfinder General, so I decided to make a witchfinder general. Thing is, I've never played this class before.

I see wisdom is the primary stat, but what are the best complementary attributes? Should I just dump everything into wisdom? Which backgrounds, skills and feats have good synergy with the class? Thanks in advance.

Edit: thanks for the replies ♥

I presume you want to play a vanilla inquisitor and not an archetype.

An inquisitor is a bit of a hybrid class. You shouldn't dump everything into Wisdom, but you should also add points into Constitution and Strength. A Wisdom score of 16 should be enough. If you play withh a vanilla party you do not need to focus on a ranged inquisitor.

If you want to be the 'face' of the party you might also want to points into Charisma but that is only if you want to roleplay.

Background and skills should supplement each other, mostly those that scale with Strength and Wisdom. You might also want to look at the favored weapon of your deity and look if you can find a background that both has that weapon and skills you want in order to gain some synerchy bonuses.

Your Deity should be the one whose weapon you want to wield (I prefer a lawful inquisitor) that wields a one handed weapon, so you can also have a shield.

Your domain should be based on what you want to do:

Community is good for the party.

Liberation and Glory domains can also be good under certain conditions.

That said, the domains available to you depend on your diety.

About feats: weapon focus should be fine first level. And any subsequent feats should be picked on the role you have in the party (back up 'tank'/ dps/ support).

Weapon focus is not available at first level though, since it requires +1 BAB, which is not the starting value for inquisitors.

You are right. Some alternatives:

Power Attack if you want to focus more on combat (unlike pen and paper power attack does not require a BaB of +1)

Skill focus: having a good Wisdom and good Skills per level makes you a good skill monkey especially with Perception.

Combat Maneuvre feats (though this can wait for later, getting them early allows you to get feats such as weapon focus later on.
I agree about power attack, since it's needed for cleave and finally cleaving strike. Almost free extra attacks — by the time you have two, you'll already have cleaving strike.

Oh, one more thing. If persuasion is your thing, consider using the acolyte background, since it will be based on wisdom then and you can completely dump charisma.
