Setup:
* Version 2.0.6l, installed via Lutris
* Inevitable Excess installed (though the same bug happens if the other 2 paid DLCs are installed as well)
* Start a new game of Inevitable Excess and save the game.
* Then, sometime later, try to load the game.

The problem that I get is that, when I go to load the save, the "Load" button is absent, and is replaced with "DLC Required". Thing is, I obviously have the DLC and have it installed, but the game isn't letting me load it.

Quicksave works fine, but I can't Quickload afterwords (nothing happens if I try).

Any idea what's going on here, and how I could fix this?

I've been having the same issue with the saves being unloadable. I've found that if I close the game and re-open it then the saves appear loadable as normal until I close the game. It means I'm opening the game, immediately closing it, and then opening it again every time I want to play it. It has been happening since the 2.0.6 update. I think it started after the second most recent patch, i.e. not the hotfix one on the 22nd but the one before that. I hope this work around works for you as well. Hopefully it gets fixed. I reported it in game using the bug report system (push ALT + B) and I would recommend you do the same.

Haven't tried this trick, but I did report the bug.

I'm using the newest patch, with the hotfix, as it fixes a game-breaking bug.

Doesn't work for me.

By the way, a couple questions:
* Are you running on native Windows or through Wine? (I'm using Wine.)
* Are you using Galaxy or the offline installer? (I'm using the offline installer.)

I am running on the newest patch as well (though the bug started prior to it) and am running on native Windows. I don't use Galaxy, only offline installers, so that is how I am playing this game.
I had this problem too. I redownloaded the game through Galaxy and it works fine now even with Galaxy closed.
I've noticed something about this issue that I hadn't before. Whether or not I see this bug depends on what I do when I start the game. When the game first starts up there are several splash screens that appear before the main loading screen with a progress bar appears. It is possible to skip these screens by pressing a button. Whenever I skip the splash screens I see this bug and am unable to load my save games. If I wait for the splash screens to appear and don't skip them then when the game loads I am don't see this bug and I am able to see my saved games. I've tested this repeatedly and it works with 100% success rate. Every time I skip the splash screens I get the bug. Every time I wait I don't get the bug.

Re-installed the newer version from the offline installers, tested, and that work-around does seem to work for me, at least for Inevitable Excess (without any other DLC installed). I only tested once, however.

With that said, not skipping these logos means it takes longer to start the game, so this is a work-around rather than a true fix, and this bug really should be fixed.

Thank you so so sooo much, it worked for me. Game takes much longer to load, but at least it loads. I uninstalled mods (toy box), and mod managers, but I never would have tried “not-skipping intro splash screens” method without you. It’s weird that it works but I’m so glad that it does, so thank you again for figuring out this work-around.
The bug is definitely in the splash screens, specifically the first one "Pazio" (?). If you hit escape after it goes black, the DLCs (my problem occured with Through the Ashes) appear and load correctly.

If Owlcat is searching for the DLC during the first splash screen, that is not a wise coding decision. People generally let splash screens run the first time they play a game (to listen to the music, see any cutscenes,) Generally speaking, they are not really interested in who developed, created, etc. the game....They want to play it.

EDIT: Seems the original post was written years ago. I recently bought the DLCs and encountered the same problem...guess Owlcat really watches this board.

The first post was definitely less than 3 moths ago, and the bug was definitely intruduced during that update.

(I reported it as a critical bug.)

The proper way to fix this would be to, if the user tries to skip the splash screen early, look for the DLC before registering the skip (assuming that such a thing can be done fast enough for the user to not notice).

Assuming that is the problem, IMHO, the easiest solution would be to code something to the effect of:
while {
load splash;
if (keystroke == ESC) savekeystroke(keystroke) ;
}
if (keystroke == ESC) executekeystroke(keystroke);

Or, they coulld simply throw out any keypresses until the screen was finished being splashed...

Then again, I'm not being paid the big bucks; nor have I ever progammed a game (graphics scare the s&&t out of me :) )

Edit: at one point, I started a new game, pressing ESC before Paizo finished splashing, was able to create a character, play a bit, save the game, but when I tried reloading in-game, ended up staring at a list of files (mine & autosave) with the the following choices: DLC required and Delete. ... not very heartening to see.

I remember the bug only affecting loading a save and not starting a new game.

As for programming the fix, the simple way to do it is to simply not process the input event until the DLC has finished being detected. The input will remain in the queue until the program checks for it, and the program can just not check for it until the DLC has been detected (or not). (A game will usually process the event queue every frame, but at this point the game hasn't fully loaded, so it's reasonable for the game to skip doing that at this point.)

I actually have been doing some gamedev lately, and my current project involves some graphics programming, and I'm actually finding it kind of fun. I'm particularly enjoying writing shaders (programs that run on the GPU as part of the rendering pipeline).

Is it private or do you plan to post your work?

I may post it eventually, but I'm probably going to want to change my username here before I post a link to it here.

(By the way, at least for this particular project, which is interesting because I'm avoiding assets entirely, I'm finding I prefer working in OpenGL directly to using an engine like Godot; there's some tricks I'm doing that I just couldn't do in Godot 3.)
This solution helped me: wrath.exe in game directory > properties > compatibility > disable fullscreen optimization. I hope someone else will come here and see this message)) All DLCs are back in place and loading normally without reinstall.
