I was all set to take Second Mystery: Nature for Daeran for the animal companion --but it looks like you only get the capstone revelation and none of the lower revelations ==> no animal companion...

So now, I'm wondering if Second Mystery is worth it... A few extra spells + a capstone revelation?
Maybe Ancestor for True Seeing spells, big boost to will saves + blind sense?
Free empowered spells for the elemental mysteries might be nice...?

I dunno. There are some other really nice Mythic options... I want to set up Daeran as a Party Buff platform with Enduring Spells. That would be awesome. Offensive spells just feel weaker in WOTR, especially single-target spells. Spell Resistance and Saving Throws are just too high, nevermind resistance to elements... Plus combat tends to start with enemies very close ==> attacks of opportunity on your casters. No saves or spell resistance for party buffs and heals. Those always work.

I'm building a vanilla team first go-round: no dips into other classes. Doing angelic path with Seelah, Daeran, Lann, Woljif, and Ember. I'll probably take Arushalae when she's available. Still on the fence about Camellia...

I'm not that knowledgeable about character building. But for casters, Abundant Casting (Improved Abundant Casting, Greater Abundant Casting), Spell Penetration, & Enduring Spells

Super Thank You! I hadn't been thinking of Mythic abilities in terms of --you only get five... Good to plan ahead! B-)

My only issue is: I can't find Spell Penetration for abilities (Maybe it's a mythic feat)?
There are some good caster abilities though: Favorite Metamagic, Greater Enduring Spells, maybe Ascendant Summons (not sure how good summons are in WOTR)...

Only if you're going for spells that deal elemental damage.

Thing is, not every caster is an offensive caster, and Daeran, due to getting the Cleric list, doesn't look like one to me.

My understanding is that you can get revelations from your second mystery, but you have to choose them when you gain regular levels, and they count against the number of revelations you get (so that means giving up revelations from your primary mystery to get these).

If you have DLC1, you can use it to test out character builds.

You can take a 5-foot-step (I think you do this by holding a modifier key when clicking somewhere to move, but I don't remember which one), which does not provoke an attack of opportunity, and then cast the spell from a safe distance.

Thanks for the great reply though. I'm guessing the 5ft step works only in turn-based mode, which I haven't tried. Might be worth it...

Hmm. I have been reading about the second mystery thingy, and haven't found anything like what you're describing. I'll look for the DLC. One test is worth a thousand simulations... B-)

Thanks for all the help! I think my conclusion to this Daeran problem is: no second mystery... My current plan:

Enduring Spell,
Greater Enduring Spell,
Abundant Casting,
Improved Abundant Casting,
Greater Abundant Casting...

Update: I have been testing and this looks to be correct. If you take Second Mystery for Daeran, you can get an animal companion at level 7. This is much more powerful than the other options for Life Revelations (also more powerful than the other Nature Revelations). Battle has some nice revelations. Life and Nature each just have one big one: Channeling, and Animal Companion. I suppose Nature's Whispers is okay, and Enhanced Cures will certainly get used.

Looks to be a big sacrifice, though. I don't want to give up on Greater Enduring Spell, so that means I have to sacrifice Greater abundant casting to get a Second Mystery. I am building Daeran into a party Heal and Buff role, so maybe that would go well with an animal companion. I'll have to check 7th, 8th, and 9th level spell lists though --but even if those lists are thin, there's always meta-magic which could take advantage of four extra spell slots for 7-9 (eg Extend)... The irony is --if I can cast 24-hour versions of most buff spells, I'll have tons of extra spell slots laying around for other things. Or I could have lower-level buffs and an animal companion...

Tough call!

Don't forget that you can spend one of your mythic feats, gained at even levels, to get an extra mythic ability, and can therefore have Second Mystery, Greater Enduring Spells, and Greater Abundant Casting all on the same character at mythic rank 9.

Just be aware that there is a long stretch of the game that takes place at mythic rank 4, so make sure your build works fine at that point. Also, you don't reach mythic rank 10 until basically the end of the game, so I wouldn't bother accounting for that in builds unless you're going to go through Inevitable Excess with that build.
