waltc: Sigh...use Galaxy and run the game without Galaxy (just like from a manual-patch installation), and all of these problems go away.
Unfortunately those people did ignore your suggestion last time, and I am doubting they will accept it this time, despite it is a good solution with some exceptions (like Linux players).
